Site is located just off the Edinburgh/Peebles Road about 1km North of Peebles in the Scottish Borders. There are two loo blocks, both kept usually immaculate by the site operators, the Chisolm family.
Hard standing and normal pitches available, some fully serviced super pitches, site is generally level, tenters accommodated in separate area not too far from the main toilet block.

There is a bus service to and from Edinburgh with a stop 85 mtrs from the entrance for back packers. Site is located beside a belt of trees, with lots of country walks around, and the site is landscaped for appearance and not just to cram in as many vans as possible.
Security barrier system in operation. Pitch and Putt course, outside Chess and Drafts, Children’s play area.

All the towns and villages of the Scottish Borders and both Edinburgh and Glasgow are within easy driving distances. Peebles has a selection of eat out Bars and Hotels plus local fish "chippies" to take away or sit-in. Small Thursday market, Farmers market Saturdays on occasion.
Neidpath Castle very well worth a visit, about £3.00 per head or around £10.00 for a family ticket.

Crossburn are dealers for Coachman and Avondale, and have a fully equipped caravan workshop, NCC approved, plus a well stocked accessory shop. There are approximately 100 static units on site, and around 40 pitches for tourers plus tenters.
Static units can be rented via Hoseasons brochure.

Site visited September 2001

60 pitches. Dogs welcome. Non-members & tent campers admitted

The site is in Melrose. You can’t miss it, whichever direction you take into the town. Just ask for the rugby park and the site is opposite!

Cleanliness up to CC standards and the Wardens are a nice couple with a wee dog that ’suffers’ you petting him!

Some pitches are not really suitable for large outfits - others take the big American MHs. Better to tell the Wardens if you’ve a large outfit and they’ll ensure you get the right size. There are also a limited number of serviced pitches. TV reception is not too good as the town is between hills, a good antenna might help - satellite definitely would!

Things to do:
Melrose is a compact wee town and can easily be walked by almost anyone but the most severely handicapped. The Abbey is about a ten minute walk, the various shops even closer, entrance fee £3.50 - unless you’re a Knight!:O).
A garage is next to the site and I can recommend their services - having had my clutch burn out 30 miles north of the site! The butcher’s shop on the left must not be missed! His steak pies and chicken pies are the best I’ve tasted in years! Also the bakers shop just up from the butchers!

For the best meals visit the Kings Head/Arms (forget which!). They are excellent value and top quality at good prices.

There’s a museum/centre for the Roman site - didn’t visit it as the person was ill when we were there, but it gets good reports from the people we’ve spoken to about it.

The Border towns are all within easy drives. Galashiels, Selkirk, Peebles, Kelso etc are all easily obtainable. The best for shops was Galashiels. This has the Pringle shop and massive discounts can be gained.

Edinburgh can be visited also - doesn’t take too long and would prove worth the visit.

Gretna Green takes about 45 minutes driving and the Outlet Village isn’t too bad. Livingstone is still the best in Scotland! Visit the Tag Heuer shop! One watch costs over £4,000 - Cathy wouldn’t let me buy it!

Nice site, nice location, nice town - will definitely be going back.

Out of ten?? 9.5!

Has to be one of THE best sites in the Club. Situated right next to shops, pubs etc. Get your car serviced at the garage, or as I did, buy a new one!

The site is reasonably compact in that pitches are either side of the road all round the site. There are a number of serviced pitches which I would advise being booked as they seem to be high in demand.

There is a dog walk up at the top of the site. PLEASE pick up after your dog. Some lazy so & so’s weren’t doing this and were ’advised’ of the rules!

The shops on the village are smashing. It’s like stepping back into the 50’s! No supermarkets here! There nearest the have are a small Co-op and a small Spar. Two butchers selling high class meat stuff, a couple of bakers - great stuff!

All the pubs serve excellent meals - our favourite is the Kings Arms - try their mixed grills!

All the Border towns can be reached with ease and are great for shopping. Pringle have a great shop in Hawick with some excellent bargains within - watch the bank manager cry!:O)

The site has computer access with payg. The only thing I have against it is the cost! £1 for twenty minutes! Given the Club need to recoup it’s investment, I still feel it’s an exorbitant charge, especially when, in Dunoon, a shop charges £1 per hour!!

Update: (Sept. 2006)
This site is highly recommended with the adviso that if you want Melrose you may have to book earlier than you might think.
It’s ALWAYS busy and often full. Oh aye! And the Kings Arms isn’t as good as it used to be for grub. Now try Burt’s Hotel or the Town House - both superb value and now cheaper than the kings!

Directions:
From S on A68.
Turn L onto A6091 [sp Galashiels]
In about 3.5 miles turn right onto B6374 [sp Melrose]
Site is on right opposite Melrose Rugby Club and immediately before the garage.

From S or W on A7 or from N on A68.
Turn Right at roundabout on to A6091 and then as above.

Gibson Park is a small 60-pitch caravan Club site in the Scottish borders.
It has recently been refurbished to a very high standard. The majority of the pitches are hard standing and some are fully serviced.
The site is on the very edge of Melrose itself, across the road from Melrose Rugby Club. It is only a couple of hundred yards to the shops and all the town facilities.
Entry is by barrier card and a tarmac one-way road leads around the site. All the pitches are usual CC size and the toilet block is, as one would expect on a club site.
Although on the edge of town we found the site very quiet and peaceful. Whilst we only stayed one night this is a site we are going back to for a longer visit, as there is a lot to see in the area.

Television reception is very good as long as you plug into the bollard. So don’t forget [as I did] to take your extension cable. There are some available for hire from reception at 50p per night.
There is no late night arrivals area and due to the proximity of the town and a car park. New arrivals are requested not to arrive before noon to avoid congestion.

There are many nice towns in the area such as Peebles, Kelso, Jedburgh, & Galashiels. Edinburgh itself is 40 miles away.

This site is open all year

To find site:
From A68 take A6091 towards Galashiels. Do not turn right at first sign for Melrose (road narrow and twisty in places) but continue to roundabout and head for Melrose from this end of town. The site is signed to the right opposite the Melrose Rugby Club.

Gibson Park is situated in an urban area on the edge of the town of Melrose in the Borders of Scotland. It is a very popular site and booking is advised. The site is open all year and accepts non-members. There is a tent area but during our visit this was closed so best to check with the site if you wish to use this facility. The site has 60 pitches all of which are on hardstanding including 5 on tarmac for motorhome use. Some of the hardstanding pitches are serviced for which there is an additional extra nightly charge. The electric bollards also have a digital TV connector but you have to provide your own cable or purchase one from reception. There is one toilet block which is up to normal Club standards and it also has a covered washing up area. Reception sells a variety of caravanning bits and pieces. Site wide WiFi has recently been installed on this site. Date of visit late September 2011.

The town of Melrose has several nice looking restaurants and couple of cafes. There is a Co-Op and Spar in the town as well as fuel station. For more serious shopping Galashiels a few miles away would be worth considering as it has both a Tesco and ASDA supermarkets, the latter having a fuel station. Public transport in the form of buses is available from near to the site. Gibson Park would be an excellent base for exploring this part of Scotland.

View of site 1 --- View of site 2 --- Reception

A pleasant site, in a small valley, it has a stream running behind it, with a dog walk along it. Reception, and the facilities, are in the centre of the site, with hard standings off the track around the block. There are plenty of grass pitches with electric points, and a good area of level grass without. This latter, being close to the facilities, is ideal for tents.

There are 4 wooden chalets on site which can be rented

The directions tell you to turn off the A697, then turn left after the Lodge Hotel, but the map in the sites book does not show that the left turn is almost immediately after you leave the main road - easy to miss!

Whilst on site we were visited by ducks, with young, and were able to watch rabbits in the evening!

The site is some 22 miles from Edinburgh, and the Site Manager can provide directions to a Park and Ride scheme using a free car park at a rail station.

View of site. --- The church

The site is approached through a commercial area, then you cross a bridge onto the site. Some hard standings, but mainly grass pitches, well drained.

The facility block is in the centre of the main part of the site, with further pitches in an adjacent field (formerly the rally field)

There are pleasant views from the site, with chickens and rabbits wandering about, and donkeys, a pony, and sheep in the field next to the site. The church clock does not chime all night!

About 3 minutes walk from the site there is a Co-Op Supermarket, and the Woollen Mill at the Hammerlands Centre offers campers/caravanners a reduced price breakfast. The town centre is about 2 minutes walk from the site
