We stayed here 23-25 April 2004. Site occupancy was one tent, two drive away awnings and maybe ten each of vans and motorhomes.

Overall, a pleasant small site of 65 mostly level pitches arranged in an oval layout with an extra loop. Access is by a DIY swing barrier.

Pitches are adequate in size with the van and awning being placed on a green plastic honeycomb buried in a sandy mix with sparse grass growing through.
Central rear of each pitch has a dirty water sump (grey waste) accessible by a short waste pipe. Two metres should be adequate. Near to this is the usual mains hook-up, with electric on one side, water tap (threaded) on the other and light on top. The area between pitches (car parking) is well kept lawn.

Managers office is basic with some essential foodstuffs and a fair selection of tourist literature.

Toilet blocks are central, fairly new and well cleaned and more than adequate for the size of site. Showers are roomy. Hot water is adequate but you cannot control the temperature. Water flow is by a push button which lasts about 10 seconds. Luckily this is situated where you can lean against it. Block access is by a 5 digit pin code which I still had not memorised after two days. There are laundry, dishwashing and sewage disposal facilities.

It cost us £28 for two nights with a small van, awning, two adults and dog including electricity.

My impression. If it had been a CC site, it’s barely average. However, it’s a nice simple clean site in a very pleasant area and very good as sites go in Northern Ireland. Other sites in the area worth a serious look are Tollymore forestry site, Castlewellan forestry site and Kilbroney forest site in Rostrevor.

The environs.
In the middle of Delamont park (Free entry included in site fee). Walks. Scenery. Bird watching. Seashore. Towns. Killyleagh 1 mile. Downpatrick 5 miles. Lots of history, some good eateries and pubs.

Motorhome with 2 people and hook-up cost £12

The site is about 1 mile from the centre of Rostrevor on the Kilkeel A2 Road.
It has a wonderful setting on the edge of Kilbroney Forest with a variety of forest walks (much used by local people). The attractive town of Rostrevor is only a 10 minute walk through Kilbroney Park which is on the other side of of the site. In Rostrevor there is a variety of shops, pubs and take-aways.

There is hardstandings for about 50 vans but the grassed area in between can be quite soft due to rain coming off the mountains.
The toilet block is modern and has all the usual facilities.
One slightly disconserting feature is the habit of some forest walkers to wander through the campsite as an extension of the forest.
Everything is a bit later than in England so the site does not settle down until near midnight.

For those who do not know Northern Ireland, most people you meet will bid you the time of day and it is quite normal to talk to strangers about almost anything.
The area around Rostrevor and Warrenpoint is very picturesque. If you like cycling then go out to Greencastle Point and Cranfield East and West, but be very careful on the A2 road as there are a number of Michael Schumacher impersonators living locally.
