CARAVAN CLUB MEMBERS ONLY

Site clean and very CC, but noise from aircraft rather too much for longer than one night stay. Although flights in are all night they are not so noisy as those going out which finish about 11-12 midnight.
Believe it or not you do get used to it after a while.

Great pub next door "The Flight Tavern" Used to have good food but have not eaten there for a while.

Toilet block to usual very high standards.

This is a Caravan Club Certified Location and as such is only for CC members with caravans.

Site: CL: Lawned field with hook ups, views over the South downs

A view of this site

Facilities: Electric hook up, water tap, dust bins and toilet emptying area.

This is a well laid out site of 1.1/2 ac of lawned field so there is plenty of space between vans. The site entrance is a private lane along side of Ansty Cross pub, but once on site there is no noise from any activity from the pub, This site is very peaceful. The pub had been closed for a couple of years and reopened end of July 1997 serving mainly meals. That was my last of 4 visits to the site.

Mrs Upton is very friendly and will give all the help asked for. No good for families, as there is a no children or ground sheet rule, even so, advance booking is required as it is very popular, restful site. The walking not very exciting around the site, but it was only a 100 metres walk to the pub for a pint (or two), or a meal, or indeed both.

Nearest town, Haywards Heath

Site: CL: Woodland clearing with a trout fishing lake

Our pitch --- The fishing lake

Turn left into farm track off the A283 Guildford to Petworh road about 3miles north of Petworth. About 30 metres up the track turn left. The site entrance is 50 metres further on

There are no facilities apart from a water tap, dustbin and toilet emptying area.
The best pitches, possibly 3, all depends how others have sited their vans, are over looking the lake which is at a lower level than the rest of the site, also not over hung with trees.

I stayed for 1 week and found some good walking places. At the time I was there August 1996 the British School of Ballooning were operating 2 fields away and was fascinating to watch. For the photographers out there, this would be a good opportunity.

I found it very peaceful, long walks to pubs, nearest big towns Petworth & Guildford. Good for peaceful breaks & fishing.
( I’m not a fisherman, so I couldn’t comment on how good the fishing is).

Site is much as described already. Now £5 per night and it would appear that CC 5 van limit is enforced.

Ballooning launches from adjacent land very much in evidence and very entertaining while sipping the early evening glass of something.

Of interest to some may be the fact that the field adjacent to the CL can be hired as a rally site.

The view

This site is about a 1.1/2miles from Ansty CL on the B2036.

This is a little used CL, Facilities water tap emptying point and a WC although I didn’t use or look for it.
The field along side is a paddock and is used for horses which come to the fence when called (if you are lucky).
There is fenced area which is used for horse dressage training, mainly by young girls, who own horses kept at the stables. It was very pleasant to watch.

Mr Collins is a golf course designer and builder, so I was told by Mrs Collins, and the golf range is only 200m down the road, so ideal for golfers for practising their drives.

Walking from the site was not good, Burgess Hill town centre is about 2.1/2m but there are a few pubs closer.

Sight seeing mainly gardens.
Will go again for the peace and quiet.

Open all year at £3.5 per night.

Littlehampton Caravan Club Site
Mill Lane
Wick
Littlehampton
West Sussex
BN17 7PH

Tel:--01903 716 176

To Find Site:
Leave A27 just east of Arundel and take A284 towards Littlehampton. Just past the village of Lyminster watch out for left turn into Mill Lane (signed for Household Waste and Recycling). Proceed with care as although entrance is near to junction at certain times of days vans can be parked opposite site entrance.

The Caravan Club has recently purchased this former commercial campsite and upgraded it to modern Club standards.
In total there are 115 pitches which consist of a mixture of grass and hard standings. Most of the grass pitches are situated beyond the toilet block. 20 of the hard standings have waste and water connections for which there is a small daily extra fee. The site has an open aspect with little in the way of shade the converse being that setting up a satellite dish should not present any problems.
There is one central, heated, facility block which is to a very nice modern standard. Included is a laundry room and an enclosed dish wash area.
Service points are dotted around the site. The electric bollards have a TV connection for both analogue and digital programmes, you need your own co-ax cable.
Next to the toilet block is an enclosed play area for younger children but no kick about area for older children. The site as a dog walk.
Littlehampton has the second generation WiFi and there are aerials all round the site, this was untested by me as I had a good 3G signal. From some pitches, mainly those running from reception round to the toilet block do suffer from some traffic noise.

This site is handy for exploring this part of the south coast and surrounding countryside. You can walk from the site into Littlehampton, or park the car on the seafront car park and walk into town along the riverside walk. Arundel is only a few miles away and is worth a visit although the castle is not open all year. A little further a field are Portsmouth and Chichester and in the other direction Worthing and Brighton. For shopping there is a minimart type shop about 10 minute walk from the site and a Tesco on the outskirts in the direction of Bognor Regis

132 pitches. Dogs & Non-members admitted

One of our favourite CC sites close to Arundel is at Worthing Sussex, where the wardens are always very friendly, TV reception is now good after they put in a booster system. Don’t forget to take your own cable.

One toilet block, impeccably clean as is the norm with CC sites.

We have been there on many occasions and never been disappointed, there is a lot to do in this area of Sussex.

This site has changed somewhat since the previous review...... it is now a 70-pitch site with NO toilets or showers. 48 of the pitches are hardstanding, the rest grass. Units up to 11 metres can be accommodated. Electric hook-ups to all pitches. Security barrier at entrance and exit, card supplied when you let them know which pitch you have selected.
Wardens friendly and helpful. This year it was open March to November.

We went there the first few days of the October 2010 half term to find all the hardstanding pitches were in use and quite a number of the grass ones. There are open grassy areas on site, and lots of trees so you should be able to find sunny or shaded pitch depending on your preference. We needed to use ramps for the motorhome on the pitch we selected but some of the others looked pretty level.

The Caravan Club website doesn't quite seem to have caught up with the changes at the moment:
---it has a photo of a children's play area which is no longer there, although there is a large grass area with goalposts.
---it mentions a disabled toilet/shower, which I suspect went the same way as the other facilities
---it mentions an entertainment complex on site?????? Not that I saw, there wasn't! Maybe they are talking about the tennis club next door or the leisure centre in walking distance?

There was supposed to be pub/restaurant also within walking distance of the site but when we were there it appeared to be closed for refurbishment. There is a bus stop for Worthing (I'm not good at estimating distance, maybe 300yds from the site?). I understand there is also a Tesco supermarket in walking distance, the information hut has a map showing the footpath route if you are walking rather than taking the car.

Nearest beach was at Goring - stony, dogs allowed. Café on the beach did lunches, afternoon teas etc.

From hearsay, I think the story with the facilities block is that major work was needed a couple of years ago to keep it functional but the council (who own the land) were threatening to close the site at the end of that season so it wasn't worth the Caravan Club spending out loads of money getting it repaired only to be kicked off a few months later so houses could be built on the land. Since then the council has only allowed the site to continue running for 1 season at a time.

I understand the Club has now been told they can continue to run the site for the 2011 season, which is good news - personally I hope it survives for many more years as it was a lovely site! Shame it's not open all year, really."

This is my favourite in the area, I found the walking better, one can walk to Midhust approximately 6 miles though woods, fields and across a golf course, but you need to bear in mind you have to walk back !!

Walking to other smaller villages, Lugashall to name one, you need to get your timing right to get to these county pubs as some close at 2pm, so no drinks or food at the end of your walk.

Weekends are fairly booked up so requires advance booking. Site your caravan and Mrs Drake will see you some time during your stay.

The farmhouse is 1/2 mile up the road.

Well worth a visit for peace and quiet

Facilities: Electric hook up, water tap and emptying point.

This is an ideal site if you are a race goer, as Fontwell race course is only 500m up the road. As the A27 is only 200m away, and part can be seen you do get traffic noise.

Mrs Hammond is very pleasant and has a few goats (no smell). She also has a fenced area where she trains dogs. quite interesting to watch.

Handy for Chichester, Arundel, Littlehampton and Bognor. Not forgetting Goodwood race track and race course.

Rowan Park CC site
Rowan Way
Bognor Regis
West Sussex
PO22 9RP

Tel: 01243 828515

Date of visit: September 2007

Rowan Park is just outside Bognor Regis. We found it to be the usual excellent standard of the CC.

Access to the site is protected by entry and exit barriers for which a code is required. Keys are also necessary for the toilet block.
Reception is on the left as you draw in and the efficient wardens soon have you on your pitch.
One tarmac road runs round the site with pitching areas off it. The pitches are a mixture of grass and hard standing throughout the site. All pitches are level. Some that back onto the road get some road noise but this is diminished by the trees and bushes which screen the site from the road.

One toilet block serves the site and is of course kept up to the usual high standards one finds on all club sites.
Although on the outskirts of town the site still has a peaceful air about it. There is a small retail park 5 minutes walk away which contains a Tesco and a KFC among others. I have to say that we had seen Bognor after a 10 minute drive and did not get the opportunity to see what else was in the area during our stay. The site served our purpose for a visit to the Goodwood Motor Racing Revival

This site is part of a complex of sites all sharing facilities so I’ll start with the touring park itself.

There is not actually very much on the touring field except a toilet/shower block (and hundreds of rabbits!).
All pitches are level but a little regimented. There is a separate field for barbecues and ball games.

The toilet block is kept reasonably clean but campers beware, the washing up facilities are on the outside of this block,so prepare to get wet if it rains! There is a small shop in reception.

The rest of the complex is huge. (So big in fact that they run a bus service !) The other sites are mostly residential statics with some for holiday hire. There is every facility that you could possibly want (and quite a few that you probably don’t !!) There are 2 clubs offering evening entertainment, shops, pubs, restaurants, take-aways, amusement arcades, swimming pool, sauna, crazy golf, go-carts, all weather sports pitches.......The list goes on and on.

This is a very good site for families with teenagers but personally I like my sites a little smaller!
(Editors note) ......and quieter Allyson ?
Allyson replied
......"believe it or not, noise is not a problem. As the complex is so big you could stay on the touring field and never know that the other facilities were there !!!!!"
