We stayed at Drum Mohr caravan park on Saturday 3rd September for 1 night. We have stayed several times before and had a really good time but this time, although the park is still as lovely and well kept as before, our stay was ruined by some campers who were to say the least “rather noisy!” as in they decided to have a sing song at midnight and had a clapping session to boot! this noise did not cease till 3am! Needless to say I was a very grumpy camper the next morning! This really ruined what would have been a great weekend.

The park is definitely now run by new management who were very friendly and helpful. They do a smashing job tending to the park and the general upkeep of the park but it was such a shame they were not so “on top” of noisy campers.
The Showers were hot and clean (shame there is only 2 showers..could now do with a few more as there was a constant queue) and the toilet block was clean and warm.

The price for 2 adults was £18 per night. (2011 prices)
There is a Motor-home service point and lots of bins and water points.
Reception also had shop with some accessories and essentials.

Lovely park but not sure I would ever return now due to noise level. Such a shame as this was always a quiet well kept park that had several seasonal campers who were very friendly.

Edinburgh CC Site--- Second report below

The Edinburgh CC Site consists of the following 197 pitches mostly hardstanding, 12 of the Pitches are Serviced, the only downside to these are that they back onto the road which can be quite busy at times and also that the site is almost below the Flightpath for Edinburgh Airport.

The site in general is very well laid out, good sized pitches, 2 immaculate toilet blocks and a good sized tenting field and there is a dog walking area adjacent to the site.

A few minutes away from the site is a good concrete based Promenade Path which is ideal for Walking/Cycling/Dog walk and goes on for miles.

There is a bus stop immediately o/side the site, the fare is only £2.00 for an unlimited day runabout ticket, ideal for visiting Edinburgh.

We stayed on a Service Pitch from Wednesday 2nd till Sunday 6th June it cost us £64.00.

This is the larger site of the two CC sites in Edinburgh and is situated to the North of the city.
The site immediately appealed as it has a nice relaxed atmosphere. It is a typical CC site. The mainly hard standings are large and level.
Electric bollards also have TV booster systems attached. I had of course left my long lead at home so I had to rent one from the warden.
There are two toilet blocks as immaculate and clean as one expects on a CC site. It was however something new to shower with Petula Clark singing each morning! At home it is the Today programme on Radio 4.
The one-way system road runs around the site. Unexpectedly the site was quiet on our visit. It is a large site and yet retains that nice small site feeling.
Reception stocks all the basic requirements, including fresh bread rolls each morning, but not papers. There is however a large supermarket 5 minutes away. The well-stocked information room is full of suggestions of what to do and where to go and where to eat.
Security is excellent with card operated access and egress barriers.
There is a large public golf course adjacent to the site and preferential rates are available by enquiring at reception.

The site is on the approach to Edinburgh airport so it is interesting to watch the aircraft on finals. We enjoyed this site a lot and I will definitely use it again. In the information room there is a photo album of what the site was like when the club took it over and the work necessary to bring it to the standards we now see. It is well worth a look as it makes one realise the capital investment involved.

It is a couple of years since we were at this site but with the loss of Slatebarns to the south of the city we shall be using it more.
It is a large member’s only site near the Forth Estuary which caters for both caravans and tents. Total pitches are around 160. The site is ideally situated for exploring Edinburgh and district. The number 42 bus from the site entrance takes you in to the centre for £2.20 return. Or you can pay £5.00 for unlimited travel on any Lothian bus service.
The highly efficient team of wardens soon have you checked in and you wander off to choose a pitch from those available. The pitches are predominantly on hard standing for caravans although there are some on grass. A separate tent field caters for the canvas lovers. All pitches are spacious. On entering the site you can turn left or right into the two halves of the site. There is a toilet block in each half. Standard CC type & of course there is no need to mention the pristine condition of them. There are also a dozen serviced pitches which have individual fresh water points and grey water drains.

A municipal golf course next door will entertain those who like to ruin a good walk! Fuel and supermarket facilities are all within two miles.

Although a larger site there is an air of peace about it. Pitches are separated with hedging which helps to preserve the privacy of your pitch. Reception sells milk, rolls and basic caravan necessities like toilet chemicals and steel awning pegs.

One slight gripe which I did discuss with a warden and I accept that I am not sure what they can do about it is the speed at which some cars passed our pitch. It was more than 5 mph. The wardens are aware of this but it is a difficult one as they can’t sit there taking numbers.

Edinburgh C C Site

To find site:
With a caravan it is best to approach from the Western end of the City bypass from the Gogar roundabout onto the A8. Then turn left onto A902, signed for Forth Road Bridge. In about a mile and a half turn right at traffic lights onto A90. After another mile and a quarter keep left onto A902 to the Crewe Toll roundabout. Take first left and immediately ahead is tubular steel bridge, at traffic lights turn right into West Granton Access Road. Turn left into West Granton Road and continue to roundabout and take third exit into Marine Drive and the site is on left in half a mile.

This campsite is located between the urban areas of Edinburgh and the Firth of Forth. It is a generally peaceful site although there is a little traffic noise from Marine Drive and planes into Edinburgh Airport fly close to the site along the Firth of Forth. The site is open all year and accepts non-members and tent campers. Most of the 197 pitches are on hardstanding with some of them being fully serviced at an extra charge. They are all of a good size and pitching areas have stands of trees and shrubs between the rows to give the site a greener feel. In the tent section there is a cooking/eating shelter. There are two toilet blocks which are up to normal Caravan Club standards, however they do come under pressure at certain times of day when the site is full. For children there is a small playground. There is site wide WiFi available on this site at normal Club rates. Reception sell a variety of essentials. Date of visit, late August 2011.

The City of Edinburgh is only a short distance away from the campsite. Either by public transport which is a 10/15 walk from the site or direct from the site by private mini bus which whilst a little more expensive is more convenient. However if you wish to spend an evening in the City and arrive back later in the night a taxi might be the best option. In Leith the ex-Royal Yacht Britannia is moored next to a new shopping area called Ocean Terminal (not to be confuse with the real one in Southampton Docks!) The Britannia is well worth a visit. The nearest supermarket and fuel is a new Morrisons about a mile from the site.

Caldons site is a Forest Enterprise run site, about 15 miles north of Newton Stewart in Galloway

THIS IS AN ISOLATED SITE, it’s great if you want to "get away from it all" and escape the world!!.

It is on the shores of Glentrool loch and it is set in a beautiful area of south west Scotland.. The main site is slightly sloping however there are other parts of the site that are level.

The road leading to the site is single track with passing places.
The site has a small shop selling limited supplies, a small children’s play area, a stream running through the site, a pool room, a table tennis room, there were barbecue areas around the site and a communal room where there are plenty of books, some board games and seating. There was a coffee machine in the communal room but when we were there it was out of order.

We took the mountain bikes with us, 3 on the car and 2 on top of the trailer tent. This was the first time we had taken them and on this site we found they were essential.

The Glentrool visitor centre was a couple of miles down the road with half a dozen cycle trails from a couple of miles to ten / fifteen miles also some walking trails. We did the longer cycle trail and saw a wild otter in a small stream.

We walked around the loch passing Bruce’s stone which marks his first victory over the English in 1307(I think we let him win). The distance is about 5 miles and is a nice gentle walk. We also walked up Merrick the highest peak in south west Scotland 2770ft and spent a day on The Queens Way through New Galloway Forest, where there are a few visitor centres. There is raider road (a rough car track) through the forest with picnic sites and an otter pool. Also on The Queens Way there is a wild goat park, a red deer walk (Guided by ranger), more cycle trails and sculpute walks.

While on a tour of the Blandoch distillery we noticed a sign for a Scotrail family day trip ticket. It cost £13.00 for all 5 of us for the day. You could travel on the train up to Glasgow, the nearest rail station was Barhill 10 miles away. We got the ticket and spent the morning in Ayr and the afternoon in Glasgow (the ticket also covered all underground travel in Glasgow)

We had some "fun" with the midges a couple of nights they were that bad we couldn’t sit outside, but the rest of the time they weren’t that bad. Moscoils were on sale in the site shop and these kept them out of the trailer tent.

The site is on the southern upland way so we saw a few back packers camping overnight.

Facilities:
The toilets / showers were basic but kept clean. It had a washing up room (to keep the midges out), washing machines / dryers were in a separate room.

As we wanted to get away from it all we had a good time on this site.

Owners: Mr. & Mrs Crawford

I don’t always do CL reports, because if you have a good one you want to keep it to yourself!
The CL in Roslin village just outside Edinburgh is one of these.
It is actually next door to the now closed Slatebarns CC site and owned by the same couple.

This very pleasant CL has both grass and hard standing pitches, together with electric hook up, and toilet facilities.
Access is easy from the wide gate once you have passed Roslin Chapel but care is needed over the speed bumps and indeed past the chapel as it can be extremely busy.

The village is a short walk from the site and has a good Scotmid general store, post office and two pubs. Buses into Edinburgh can also be caught from here. This makes it an ideal site for visiting the city and also for walking in the nearby Roslin Glen.

Directions: Leave M74 at J13 and follow A702 to Edinburgh. Shortly after Nine Mile Burn fork right on A766 sp Penicuik. In Penicuik turn left A701 Edinburgh Road. Follow signs to Roslin. At roundabout turn right and follow brown tourist signs to chapel. Drive past chapel to steel gate on left and CL.
