Visited June 2005 (1 night)

Shower block --- Playground

The site is located on a strip of land between the A82 and Loch Lomond, so there is some traffic noise.

There are some hard standings, and many grass pitches. Due to the rain that Scotland had suffered many of the pitches were soft, and the site managers were pitching units with care.

There are two modern toilet blocks, each with a washing-up room, and a laundry room. There is one Chemical Disposal point for the site

Television reception was good (Black Hill Transmitter)
Mobile reception good (Orange)

A ’Members Only’ site with some hardstandings and grass pitches.

Reception has few basic provisions, and there is a childrens play area, and a dog walk.
The main attraction of this site is that it is right on the banks of Loch Lomond, although that also means you’ll need plenty of protection against those pesky midges!

Our visit started badly - when we arrived we were allocated the only pitch left, a hardstanding pitch without awning space, despite having booked hardstanding with awning many months earlier. I was assured they didn’t know anything about an awning pitch being booked, but after waving around our head office booking confirmation letter which clearly showed hardstanding with awning a second pitch was found which could accommodate an awning.

This is a long thin site (photo) sandwiched between the A82 and the shore of Loch Lomond. Inevitably, this means there is some road noise, but despite that, it manages to feel surprisingly peaceful. The road noise did calm down at night.

The site has 2 facilities blocks, the one furthest from reception seems to have a serious damp problem with mould on the outside walls, but other than that the facilities were clean and in good working order.

Luss village (which has a small shop for groceries etc. as well as souvenirs) is within easy walking distance. Boat trips are available from the pier. There is also a glass studio in the village.

Would we go back? Yes, as a stopover, possibly for a short break, but not for a full week.

£24.50 for 2 nights, motorhome and 2 people.

Very pleasant site with a mixture of grass and hardstanding pitches, some on the shore of Loch Lomond, many others with at least a limited view of the loch. Some of the grass pitches have quite a slope on them.
The site is used by lots of watersports people and those walking the West Highland Way. Resident ducks abound!

Facilities:
Toilets, showers, disabled facilities, laundry, dishwashing, backpackers hut, boat launching, limited provisions available at reception.

Claims to have a motorhome service point - bit of a classy title for a manhole cover and tap in the wardens compound, have seen many much better motorhome points elsewhere.

There is a small shop in Balmaha which we didn’t try so don’t know what it stocks, a variety of shops in Drymen which came up with everything we needed food wise.

T-mobile and Vodafone reception OK.

This is not a site you use as a stopover on the way to anywhere else - it is on a dead end road along the Eastern shore of Loch Lomond. Any trips out would involve driving the same stretch of road back to Drymen before you could go anywhere different, but as a base for walking, cycling, boating or just plain relaxing it is ideal.

It is an attractive site with a peaceful feel and easy access to the loch shore, but be warned when the sun comes out, so do the midges. We would happily go back (especially out of midge season!!) as we really enjoyed this one.

This site was formally a Council owned site, but the Club took it over and totally rebuilt it and it opened last October.
The site is open all year round and is really well laid out.

It consists of the following:-
---------- 170 Pitches, all hardstanding.
---------- 12 Fully Serviced with one extra long pitch.
---------- 7 Disabled pitches with 2 extra long ones for 11m units.
---------- There are also 9 other extra long pitches.
---------- When the grass grows there will be 45 spaces for Tents with Electric's.
---------- There are 2 New Toilet blocks on site.
---------- There is a Storage Area which accomodates 297 caravans/Motorhomes, cost is £360 per year, there was approx.,
---------- 115 units in storage when I visited.
---------- The Country Park is ideal for cycling and walking round the loch.
---------- M&D's own a Theme Park located in the Park which has spine chilling rides, a massive indoor family entertainment complex.
---------- A few minutes walk from the site entrance there is a Hotel and Tavern which does Carvery.

The 2 downsides I found were the Traffic Noise from both the M74 Motorway and the Bellshill Road which both pass the Site.
The Traffic Lights which leed out of the Park into the very busy Bothwell Bridge interchange have still to be repaired and put into operation.
