The site is located about a 5 minute walk from the beach, about 15-20 minute stroll from the town of Dunbar with enough shops to satisfy any caravanner looking for the quiet life.
Dunbar has resteraunts and bars to satisfy most people though we never frequented them. A lovely bakers and a great hardware store that seems to stock just about everything. There are 2 charity shops, but best book bargains are to be found in the heart/stroke shop we also picked up a good "who wants to be a milloinaire board game" for the van for a mere £1.50 brand new, in this shop!!! (sue ryders was 2 expensive 4 me lol).

The site has a lovely duck pond where the kids can catch tiddlers in with a fish net. There is a small childrens play area that is like a mini assault course and plenty room for them to play footie and other ball games.

They have a tent area which seemed pretty full when we were there yet not overcrowded. Caravan pitches are generous and us being us got a pitch that required the longer power lead hook-up but the owners of the park can give you an extension for a £20 deposit and return it when you return the lead.

The toilet block to some may seem a little tired but the owners do keep it clean and there is a plentiful supply of hot water and free hairdryer. The laundry (although I never used it) was clean tidy and reasonable priced. The washing up area was also clean and tidy,

in all for a commercial site this site was good. We would return again. The price for a night including electric hook up in the height of the season is £18.
There is also some kind of shop on site but I know due to the close proximity of supermarkets (5mins drive max) they only seem to stock ice lollies and ice poles etc reasonable priced.

Situated about 12 miles east of Edinburgh close to Cockenzie/Port Seton.

The site is run by British Holidays who have sites all over the country. We have stayed on three British Holiday sites so far and found them ideal for fun filled, family orientated holidays.
Lots of entertainment laid on during the day and in the evenings but not the type of holiday if you like a quiet, relaxing quot;kids free" sort of site :o).
We stayed in a static caravan (left the trailer tent at home!) and thoroughly enjoyed the extra space and "home comforts" that it brings. Heating in all rooms, fridge/freezer, microwave, oven, shower, TV, etc. Prices vary depending on the time of year that you stay, and for every holiday that you have with British Holidays, you are given "points" which you can use to reduce the cost of your next stay with them.
They also have special prices for holidays taken towards the end of the season. For example, the holiday we have just had with them cost us £46 which included £8 optional insurance! That was for two adults, two children, all gas, electric and club passes for five days.
Obviously the entertainment isn’t "top class" because it’s nearing the end of the season but, hey, £46!
The site overlooks the Firth of Forth but the beach isn’t any thing to write home about, still it blows the cobwebs away!

Facilities on the site include: Indoor pool, children’s clubs, wooded play area, sports courts for tennis etc., fish shop, restaurant, shop and newsagents, various bars/clubs, games rooms, amusements etc.

This site also caters for tourers. Again prices vary depending on what time of year you stay. £4/£8 in low season to £10/£14 in high season. There’s also an extra £2 p/p p/n for anyone over 4 years. This covers the cost of your passes for the on site clubs/entertainment. All of the above mentioned facilities are available including shower/toilet blocks, washing up facilities, laundrette, electric hook up etc.
Pets are also welcome.

We tend to use these "bargain breaks" as a base to explore the surrounding area and countryside. Here we drove over to Loch Lomond, about 90 minutes drive, and spent the day walking, taking a cruise on the Loch and visiting the small villages around the Loch, namely Balloch, Balmaha, Buchanen Smithy and Drymen.

The site is also very well placed for visiting Scotland’s capital, Edinburgh, about a 12 mile drive and pretty straight forward. Driving through the city itself wasn’t as bad as I was expecting, quite civilised really :o) The buildings are quite spectacular. Lots of huge stone pillars, monuments galore and of course the castle itself, proudly sitting on the hillside overlooking the main high street. Quite impressive.

While in Edinburgh we also took the opportunity to pay a visit to Leith harbour for a tour aboard the one and only Royal Yacht Britannia, which has made Edinburgh her last resting place since being decommissioned in 1997. Quite an experience walking in the footsteps of not just Royalty, but famous presidents and world leaders. This grand old ship has travelled well over one million miles in it’s lifetime. Well worth a visit.

All in all a good short break for a very reasonable price. The girls didn’t want to go home so I think that speaks for itself! Not everyone’s cup of tea but if you have children, they’ll enjoy the set up and I believe most of the British Holiday sites are along similar lines, so if you enjoy one site, then you should enjoy them all.

A brochure is available which gives details of all 20 British Holiday sites. Tel: 0345 508 508.

All of the above comments are my personal opinions and I take no responsibility for any changes that may occur during the period of this report and anyone paying a visit to this site. You are advised to check with the site itself before making a booking or visiting.

The above park is very well laid out and has both static vans and lodges, it has a Function room which has top class entertainers and cabaret shows during the season as well as disco’s and bingo.

There is a small indoor swimming pool adjacent to the lounge bar, it sells excellent meals at night.

There is a lower level area called ‘The Glen’ where the lodges are situated, alongside it there is a fishing loch which is well stocked with trout and costs £14 for the Permit.

The site is ideal for visiting Edinburgh, Dunbar and all the small local villages along the coastline, there is also a new Asda supermarket opened a couple of miles or so Back towards Edinburgh.

Touring site details:
The site consists of 75 touring Pitches, 15 of which are super pitches with their own electric, water and drainage, the rest are serviced pitches mostly hard standing but some with grass.

The toilet block was spotless and the facilities were excellent.

Prices:
The prices start at £18 up to £28 depending on the time of year, this is for a car, 2 x adults and children under 10 years.

Awnings are £3.00 per night.

Dogs are £5 per stay.

A £25 non-refundable deposit is required at the time of booking, the balance payable on arrival.

‘HAVEN’ tried to buy the site last year, but the owners refused to sell it after having spent a lot of years developing it and it has a great name as a holiday park, it has been 10 years since I last visited it and it is really well run and looked after.

Date of visit.............24th March till 28th 2010

Editor note. After reading Mary Moane's acount of her stay at Drum Mohr in Edinburgh and the late night, noisy neighbors she had to endure ( See report) Andy suggested the following site as an alternative. End note.

After reading Mary's report, may I recommend Yellowcraig CC site near North Berwick as a possible alternative. It is (was) a smashing site when we stayed there.
About a five minute drive to North Berwick, is very close to a railway station but not close enough to be disturbed by trains; there is a small wood hard by which is suitable for dogs and kids(!) to have a ball. A fairly modest walk will bring you to the beach with miles of empty sand to let them both run free with little danger of them causing any bother. In fact, you can walk the beach into North Berwick if you're capable.

This is a mature site sectioned off into areas that take around twenty vans unless you opt for one of the pitches opposite the office, quite quiet there too.
There's a Sunday market at the Linton airfield and the air museum there's also worth the visit, if only to see Concorde.

There's an excellent hotel in the village that serves superb food, even allow dogs to stay with residents!

The ONLY draw back was, towards the end of the season, a large field gets filled with 'seasonal workers' and may be off putting for some. I have to say I never heard of any trouble and the Police were frequently there just to let them know they were being watched! We never had a bit of bother from them or their kids. They seem to be better behaved than most with whom I've had contact.

Tel. No. 01620-850217

I was there for 5 days up to Sunday the 4th September.

There are 119 pitches but only 36 are hardstanding and when we arrived there were no hardstanding pitches available, but we moved to one the following morning.

The grass area does not have very good drainage and there were lots of muddy pitches when we arrived.

In the wooded area, the council have built a kids play area consisting of rope climbing frames, swings, shutes etc., and it is safe and appears to be well maintained by the council beyond that you walk out onto a beautifull sandy beach.

Andy has given you the rest of the info re the Site.
