Balbirnie Park CC Site
Markinch
Glenrothes
Fife
Scotland
KY7 6NR

Tel: 01592 759 130

Situated on the A92, just north of Glenrothes. The site is on the left, off a roundabout, (heading South on the A92) or on the right heading north. It is in the grounds of a Country Park and is reasonably well sign posted. It is a typical CC site for the high standards for cleanliness and spacing.

There are three main pitching areas, only one of which is grassed. The grassed area is to your right as you enter the site and has approximately 20 pitches.
The other two are ahead of you as you enter the site. The Warden is helpful regarding suggestions as to where to pitch if you have a large outfit, ie a TA.

It is a quiet site with very little, or no, road noise. The grassed area would be the ’noisy’ area but traffic is not too heavy. Be warned! There is a householder that keeps parrots, at least one African Grey that wants attention! the parrots are noisier than traffic! ;o)

The grounds of the Park are well kept but be careful of local golfers - speed humps and limits don’t seem to apply to them. Walk facing the traffic for your own safety!
There are ’craft’ shops at the big house with local craftsmen/women on their premises. We especially liked the goldsmith’s shop - not telling you how much we spent!

The village is a couple of minutes drive from the site with an ethnic minority owned shop(!) open most hours and selling almost everything. The chipper is a revelation! I asked for a pizza for Cathy - didn’t stay to see it heated - came back - paid for it - got it back to the ’van - to find they’d fried it! The food from here is *very* greasy so be careful of clothing and take an indigestion reliever! The Chinese takeaway is excellent and not expensive - approximately 2/3 the price of Aberdeen (London).

Lots to see and do in Fife - the information kiosk has loads of information - easily accessible.

Craigtoun Meadows is a private owned Site and is very well laid out. It is situated about 1 mile outside St Andrews.

It has an almost new and immaculately clean toilet block containing 8 unisex showers and 2 baths and a baby changing area.

The site consists of a Static caravan area and has 56 Touring Pitches consisting of Standard, Large and Patio Pitches, all of which are Serviced, there is an area set aside which can accomodate 7 Tents.

There is also a Restaurant within the site that serves lovely evening meals.

This is a very up-market site and is worth a visit.

The only down side is that No Dogs are allowed, due to the fact that some visitors were allowing there dogs to foul the area and not cleaning up after them.

We stayed at Craigtoun Meadows just outside St Andrews.

Mostly statics but several areas for tourers. Really we just used it as a base to go and see my daughter.

Comments are that its friendly, well appointed, level well-drained ground, toilet/washing facilities were very good - its the first campsite we’ve ever been to that has got baths as well as showers. And OH that was good after days on forced marches around St Andrews. Oh my poor legs!

The site also had a well-stocked shop, pleasant restaurant and games room - guess who won the table-tennis ;x)

Park description: (From the web site)

Directions to the park: (Also from the web site)
Follow main Cupar to St. Andrews road and follow signs to Craigtoun after Guardbridge, or 1.5 miles west of St. Andrews West Port.
