Lovely site surrounded by woodland. Individual pitches with trees between each pitch.

We chose a superpitch which comprised of a concrete pitch with satellite TV and own water, waste drainage points. We wouldn’t chose a superpitch again as the pitch had slabs on the floor for the awning to go on and it got very muddy between the pattern of the blocks!

The standard pitches have a pebble base which could be awkward if you have the wrong sort of awning pegs so be warned.

There is a small swimming pool, sauna and jacuzzi on site - all chargeable. Plenty of games for the kids, small shop and a nice bar done out ’western style’.

We found a nice walk into Woodhall Spa where you can find the Kinema - the smallest cinema in Britain and ’the tea shop in the woods’. Other shops and plenty of pubs are in the town.

This is the Madcaravanner’s secret hideaway

Imagine a pub with a field behind it with a huge hedge to hide the field. (Site looking towards pub)
Add a basic sanitary block open 24 hours and dedicated shower (you get a key per van). There are site wardens to keep it clean too.
Then put a dozen electric points around the perimeter.
Then leave a large clear area in the middle of the field for kids to play safely. (Play area, looking towards ’van)

You can go to the pub and have a meal or go to the door with your plates and get a meal to take back to the van.
The pub is a Free house they have a family room, and although dogs are welcome on site they are not in the pub due to it serving food.

Everyone knows Ingoldmells is they place where everyone goes to Skeggy now.
This site is ideally situated at the top of Ingoldmells near to the church - on a Sunday morning it may be too near the church for some though so be aware.

Pitches of indeterminable sizes, quite large, but all uneven
Electric OK

Access: 500 metres from main road the tarmac is OK, but after that the tarmac is full of pot holes

Toilet blocks tired and in need of rebuilding
The site is noisy at night
Entertainment for kids and adults is 1km away from the touring pitches. To get to the (security fenced) entertainment area you must run the IKEA gauntlet, a twisty turning path around a maximum of slot machines, before you can find the play area, the swimming pool, the bars, the club house and the restaurant. To get out then you do it all again !

The only redeeming thing was the fishing but, unfortunately, the advert picture showed a huge lake which in fact turned out to be 2 tiny ponds

If it was not for the fact it was only £28 for 3 nights it would be OK, but in a few weeks time this place costs £150 for 4 nights for which is not worth it

A level site with both hard standings and grassed pitches maintained to Club’s usual high standard. Excellent toilet/shower and laundry facilities, with childrens’ play area and very good off-lead dog walk from site.

Newsagent visits 9am daily and fish and chip van visits twice weekly.

Shops and beach about a 5 minute drive away. Beach is sandy - wide and loooonnngggg - on this part of the coast. Supermarket shopping at Mablethorpe is 10 minutes by car. Skegness about 30 minutes drive to the south.

Leave the typical English seaside resorts and the flat coastal plain and drive inland and see the contrasting landscape of the Lincolnshire Wolds. Lovely villages and interesting towns. Louth is worth a visit. St James Church has the most amazing wood carvings and decoration and angels ’fly’ up near the roof! Lots of pubs (Kings Head carvery was v good) and a market.

The fish and chips from Waldos in Sutton are better than the vans’ that visits the site.
Sutton is lovely and yes, what a beach! Lined with beach huts.
The Beach Cafe was surprisingly good, everything freshly prepared and if you want to eat in your van, then the Spar shop is very well stocked with fresh food (and drink!)

Good pub food nearby. The Red Lion and The Axe and Cleaver deserve a special mention.

To Find Site:
Take A52 at roundabout in Sutton on Sea in the direction of Skegness. In about one mile turn right into Crabtree Lane, which is signed for Sutton, Ings and Alford, there is also a brown caravan site direction sign. The site is on the left in about half a mile. (It is best to avoid following site signs from the A1111 as the road is narrow in places)

Hawthorn Farm, a members only site, has 115 pitches of which 53 are on hardstanding. The pitches are arranged around a circular site road. In one corner of the site is a play area suitable for younger children.
The site is open from mid march through to early November.

There is one centrally situated toilet block. The toilets are cleaned during the early afternoon, which in my view is a sensible time. Whilst being cleaned there is access to two unisex toilets so there are always facilities available.

Milk and ice cream are sold at reception and newspapers can be ordered for the following day.
On Tuesday evenings a mobile fish and chip van visits the site, having sampled them they are really very good.
There is good mobile reception on site. TV reception on the other hand was a bit hit and miss.

The only thing that I would criticise about the site is the provision of toilet emptying facilities as from some pitches there is quite a hike.

This is an ideal site for those that want to be near the sea. The beautiful sandy beach at Sandilands is about a 20 minute walk away. There is a nice traffic free promenade that runs all the way to Sutton on Sea and beyond. The fleshpots of Skegness and Mablethorpe are not far away! There are also supermarkets in both places.

Fishing for tench, common and mirror carp, rudd.

We arrived on Friday to find that the ground was a bit wet and the owner, Anna, contacted her husband who help us to move onto the site with tractor. While we waited she gave us coffee and a very warm welcome!
There are 12 electric hook ups and 12 fishing pegs so you get your own peg, my hubby said it was excellent fishing although he found that you had to fish just under the surface and using only bread!

Shower and toilets were VERY clean and although the showers cost 50p (tokens from owner) they last for ages and the water can be as hot as you like! We were a bit worried because it is advertised as a very quiet site and we took two not very quiet 16 year olds with us! But they though it was really good and the lane just outside the site was great for skating on or using their electric scooters!
The other people on the site were very friendly too which I think helps.

Hogsthorpe is a nice place the pub does a wonderfull Sunday lunch and the village post office/ shop is great for odds and ends.
Chapel St Leonards is quite close and Ingoldmels and Skegness are just a short car ride away.

All in all I give this site a big 10 out of 10 so book early for next year and as Ive already told Anna we will be back for easter and probably for a week in the summer I had better warn you that this site will book up really quickly!!
Enjoy but don’t nick our pitch!!

High season 2001
£8.50 pitch
£3.00 awning
£2.50 electric
£0.50 per dog

This site is the best one with regard to walking distance into Skegness, the town centre is approx 1 mile away, Ingoldmells is 3.5 miles away in the opposite direction.

The site had a shop (expensive) and a club "The Pitch and Putt Inn". Entertainment was on at the Pitch and Putt every night we were there but we didn’t go in so I cannot comment on the standard.

There were all weather pitches available which were £4 per night on top of the above prices. They were well spaced out however the standard pitch we stayed on was not laid out very well. We were situated at the back row, with another row in front of us. If we had to get the caravan out at busy times I could foresee problems as there wasn’t much of a gap between outfits to manoeuvre the caravan out. We went on a Bank Hol and the site was full.
The pitch was level and plenty of water taps were available. The reception staff were helpful and provided black bags upon request to keep the rubbish to a minimum.
The campsite is not directly on the busy road as a pitch and putt golf course was situated in front of it. A warning sign says caravans parked at owners risk as a line of pitches were directly at the side of the golf course!

We enjoyed our stay here as we don’t mind the business of the site. We would go again if we wanted a holiday in Skegness again. Nearby is Fantasy Island, Butlins, Hardys Animal Farm and Chapel St Leonards.

I have never stayed here, but I have fished there. It’s not a bad site.

It’s on the A1104 in Maltby le Marsh, about 3 miles from Mablethorpe, Lincolnshire.
It’s opposite a nice little pub called The Turk’s Head and the Post Office and local store is about 100 yards away.

It’s a Camping and Caravan Club CS, with pitches for 5 vans, with electrics.
The pitches are on a gentle slope overlooking one of the lakes, and there’s a very basic toilet and shower block and a café, but the main attraction is the fishing.
There are 2 lakes, both well stocked, and a tackle shop that’s got far too much stock to take in.

The owners, the Higham family, are nice folks, and offer a welcome even to know-nothings like me, being as happy to help a beginner get started as they are to run a big match.

Oham Lakes is one of the Premier Fisheries group. www.premierfisheries.co.uk/

I’ve no connection with Oham other than as a very satisfied customer, and hope the info is of use.

Notes: If you follow the tick scheme of scoring it’s a 3 tick site.

The site is located 3 miles from Boston so that means (for you beach lovers) only 25ish miles to good old Skeggie (Skegness to those North of the Border)

Orchard park is a 27 acre site with tourers on one side of the road and static vans the other. The tourer site has a 5 acre fishing lake (for those of you who cast a line) and each pitch has electric and water laid on.
whilst the site is well drained the trees are still very young so the site can be a bit blowey (more later).

The toilet block is very clean, the showers were hot & free. There is a washing machine etc in the same block. Disabled toilet facilities are also available in the same building.

Over the road a small shop sells the basis. There is a Tesco’s in 2 miles. The club house has a good atmosphere with everyone being given a warm welcome.

Not much equipment for the kids but for the bigger kids (like me) then the prospect of a large open space and lots of wind is just too much not to resist.
Out came both the kites and I managed to get around 1 1/2 on each with the larger "Spirit of Air Nexus" (7 foot span) proving to be a real hand-full in the morning breeze.

For those of you looking for a quiet relaxed site from which to venture out into the changing Lincolnshire countryside, from the flat fields around Spalding to the Hills (Wolds) and what appears (to some of Lincs. folk) mountains at Lincoln to some of the best Sandy Beaches on the East Coast, then this is for you

Fees: Standard grass pitch - £10 per night
Super pitch with hard standing and electric point - £15 per night
All prices include awnings and dogs, and the use of toilet and shower facilities

Site visited: November/December 2008

Pigeon Cottage is a small site set back off the A1031, the main road from Grimsby to Mablethorpe which runs through the village of North Somercotes.
Access to the site is by a gravel driveway which is wide enough for any caravan or motorhome, though there is a gate part way along the drive which must be kept closed at all times.
Although there is no mention of it on the Pigeon Cottage website the site is actually a Camping & Caravanning Club CS, and is listed in the Club’s Big Sites Book.

The site is open all year and the owners Jan and Rik are very friendly and helpful - if you have any problems or need any information you only need to call at the house and ask.

The site itself is completely level and very well drained - there are only four hardstanding pitches with hook up but there is room for a further half dozen or so caravans on seasonal pitches without hook up. The tent area is at the top end of the site and separated from the caravan area by a fence, but this doesn’t isolate the tent area in any way. The bed and breakfast cottage has 6 en-suite rooms, one of which has disabled faciliites. Although the site is on a main road the passing traffic is not particularly noisy, and at night it is so quiet you can hear the proverbial pin drop.

Fresh water is from a tap on the side of the building near the bed and breakfast cottage, and the toilets and showers are in a building next door to the cottage. They are spotlessly clean at all times, and handsoap is provided. There is also a disabled toilet and shower, but strangely the disabled toilet also acts as the chemical disposal point.

For those who like to fish there are two lakes on site, one with 20 pegs and a larger one with 26 pegs. Both lakes are well stocked with a variety of carp, tench, chub, roach and rudd, and the larger lake can be pre-booked by clubs for fishing matches. Fishing hours are from dawn till dusk from the platforms only - the cost is £5 per day, and bait can be purchased from the cottage. For those likely to get hungry during a spot of fishing sandwiches, snacks, hot and cold drinks can be ordered before 11.30am and will be delivered to your peg at lunch time.

The village of North Somercotes has a newsagents, post office, general store, restaurant, take-away and a couple of pubs, all within walking distance of Pigeon Cottage. The Bay Horse serves good meals at reasonable prices.
Mablethorpe is a 15-20 minute drive away, and only a couple of miles from the village is Donna Nook nature reserve where, from October to late December, hundreds of grey seals come up into the dunes to give birth to the young conceived the previous year and to mate for the following year. No visit to this area of Lincolnshire at this time of year would be complete without a visit to Donna Nook, and a camera is an absolute must.
Seal photos: No 1.----- No.2. ----- No. 3.

There was only one down-side to our four days at Pigeon Cottage and that was a problem with the site electrics. There were two other caravans and a motorhome there over the same weekend, and when anyone plugged anything in it blew the electrics on the whole system. Rik was very helpful though and on two separate evenings spent a long while and tried his best through a process of elimination to get everything sorted out but unfortunately it didn’t quite work, and on what must have been the coldest weekend of the year we ended up shivering over a small portable camping heater because we didn’t dare plug in our fan heater. However, when everyone else left the site and we had the place to ourselves on our final day the electricity worked perfectly, so there was obviously a fault somewhere on the system.

Aside from the faulty electrics, which hopefully will be rectified in the near future, Pigeon Cottage is a lovely well kept little site run by a really nice young couple, and we have every intention of making more than one return visit.

This site is mainly dedicated to static’s but it has reasonable sized, flat and open touring fields with separate areas for electric’s and non-electric’s.

The view and ambience are around zero with the surrounding static’s, adjoining rail track and looming gas holder.

Persistent rain had affected the site for a couple of days before our arrival and drainage seemed to be so poor, that the pitches were like a quagmire and mud seemed to get everywhere.

Toilets blocks were of a reasonable standard, showers were ( I thought ) far too hot, also the blocks needed better heating for the time of year, even though the weather was quite mild.

The club and entertainment areas are extensive but are sometimes not accessible as chargeable events are run there. A country music and line dance event was in progress over the weekend and the charge for entry would have been £25 per person. After the weekend entry was free but the rooms are so large and sparsely decorated that they have little atmosphere unless crowded.

Despite the negatives this is a good site if walking access to the town is important to you.

Cost was £8 per night, £2.50 for electric hook-up and £1 for an awning.

Roach Farm is listed as a Caravan Club, Certified Location 5 van site. Curious then that there are 7 pitches on it?
Non members are also welcome as there is a non CC member touring section.

The site has a mixture of statics and tourers. Tents are also accepted. The statics are towards the rear of the park, the non CC member touring section is on one side and the CC touring section is at the front of the park.

The park is nicely landscaped with tall hedges and trees, and kept very clean and tidy. The facilities are well maintained and the pitches are clearly marked. 16 amp hook ups and the usual chemical waste and water points are around and adequate.
Site is nicely lit up at night. No rowdiness experienced at all as they don’t attract "those" types! I would say that this park is nice and quiet, except for the traffic noise from the main road (A158) at the front that is

On arrival, the reception hut provides a warm and helpful welcome. There is also a small shop selling fishing tackle and bait.

The shower/WC block with a separate disabled facility is in between the two touring sections. This is the best shower block we have ever experienced. Tastefully decorated with lovely wall and floor tiles, sunken spot lights, auto on/off lights and ventilation, heated floors made it all very comfortable, hot water at the shower heads all the time and the showers were free. However and inconveniently, someone kept nicking the loo rolls!

There are three lakes all for fishing. The front lake is great for tiddler bashing with the kids whilst the other two lakes hold some nice size carp and roach for the more serious angler. I caught a couple of decent size carp. One 10lb mirror and an 8lb common, both on floating bread flake in the margins of the island. The fishing wasn’t too testing and it wasn’t too easy either, as the right bait and tactics combination had to be found for success.

On Sunday, there is a giant car boot sale in the field next door. No noise from it all and we didn’t realise it was there until we passed it.
There is a bus stop 200 yards away from the park for the 2 mile trip into Skegness town. Buses go every hour so the car can stay next to the ’van.
2 miles away in Burgh Le Marsh, a pretty village with a windmill tea room, local shops, pubs and pub grub.

All in all, it was great weekend away and we would recommend it to anyone who likes the combination of a peaceful fishing retreat with the facilities that a major seaside resort has to offer only 2 miles away.

Hard to know where to start, Big welcome at reception, laid back attitude, pitch where you like, hard standing, grass whatever, electric hook up, good size pitches, we had a whole section to ourselves, well maintained, no mud, good facilities, £2 deposit for the toilet key.

Fishing is included in the price on the river (2 miles of it fishable) and one of the lakes (good size lake)fishing the Carp pond costs £3.50 a day or £5 for 24 hrs, you have to use the landing nets provided by them to prevent disease ( good idea) £5 deposit refundable, the tackle shop is an Aladdin’s cave to an angler, you name it, they’ve got it, on Fri. Pete was the only one on the Carp pond, two mins walk from the van, the fish were up for it, Huge, he was there 4 hours and caught about 15 Carp, missed a few, the last was a monster that all but finished him off took him about 15 mins to get it up, he was knackered, had to pack in after that.

Sat. morning walking round the site stumbled on the local ’shoot’.. Pheasants falling out the skies (one on the golf course on site) the wildlife was amazing, barn owls, Kestrels, Hares,

The pub restaurant on site serves one of the best pints of Guinness I’ve ever had.. well, maybe more than one the menu was very extensive and good prices. Children and dogs are welcome, a friendly welcome from every one, like pubs used to be, there was a disco on Sat. night!

This site has static vans on but the touring site is well separated and you wouldn’t even notice them, except when staggering back from the pub

Highly recommend this place, will be going again soon. Wish I was going for Christmas as they have loads going on, party nights etc, will be doing it next year.

Follow the signs for Butlins on the A52. The site is between Skegness and Ingoldmells. Turn right opposite the Garden Bungalow Site into Winthorpe Avenue. Site is adjacent to the Derbyshire Miners Holiday place.

We went to Skegness for the Bank Holiday, having never been there with the van ever!

The site was fully booked and is apparently so most weekends in the summer. We were lucky to ring on spec. and get an pitch for Saturday & Sunday (someone hadn’t turned up the Friday they were booked for).

The site wardens were extremely helpful, Mr & Mrs Williamson they were called. Melv had forgotten to put the electric cable in the van and they loaned us theirs!

The site is laid out very well, and was spotlessly clean, as were the toilets and shower blocks (heated). Toilet blocks had showers in them and curtained off wash basin cublicles. There were also separate (huge) shower rooms and a
disabled block.

Site is adjacent to the promenade at the north end. We had a key for the site gate - on to the prom and down on the sandy beach. Near enough to pop back to the van and fetch a cuppa! Our grandchildren (2 & 3) were in their element with this and the kiddies playground on site. The play area is on a separate part of the site away from the road.

There are hardstandings for m/c also.

Price was £10.50 night including electric hook -up
Note: only eco friendly groundsheets allowed.

Thoroughly enjoyed the weekend and will be going back there again.

Just across from Butliz is a small lane, the site is down that lane

133 Acres of Grass and water, 200 electric hook-ups available on site are fishing (day ticket),water skiing (towline), laundry, shop, coffee shop, restaurant, and The Barn Inn. Ideal for Butlins and touring.
the only price I can find is for 1996 which was £5.50 for a family tent (4 persons) per night .
As I remember, It was a huge site, but There were a few statics there.
They were building a new tiolet/shower block 3 years ago (our last visit)
Security seemed to be good, with guards with dogs patroling the site.

The site is so big, with plenty of space between ’vans, that the inn cannot be seen from the campsite side.
Although there are lots of sites around Ingoldmells, many are now static only there are very few that are for campers and tourers within walking distance most are well out of town apart from Hardies in the middle of Ingoldmells and they only take vans (and mobile homes /campervans) not tents

Skegness Tourist information does give out info on campsites 01754 764821 and ask them if they can help.

We tend to go out of Skeggy and commute in by bike as car parking is extortionate and not sufficient for the area.

Skipworth Arms
Moortown
Market Rasen
Lincolnshire
LN7 6HZ

Tel: 01472 851 770

Open all year

Current fees - contact site for details

This basic but peaceful little site is literally a hidden gem. About half a mile from the village of Moortown and almost in the middle of nowhere it's tucked away behind a pub, and you wouldn't know it was there unless someone told you about it as there's no sign at the entrance and it can't be seen from the lane; there's no reception so you go into the pub to book in. The level open field is well-draining and separated from the pub by a small car park and a grass bank, and the end nearest the car park is divided by rows of tall conifers, making a separate section for a handful of seasonal caravans. There's also a large fishing lake on one side of the site with access all the way round, making it ideal for those early morning dog walks.

There are several 16amp hook-up posts along the side of the site nearest the lake and plenty of space to pitch elsewhere if you don't need ehu. There are no lights on the site other than one near the car park so you will need a torch or lantern for any night time visits to the loo. The toilet/shower block is situated just off the car park; the doors have keypads so you will need to get the code number when you book in. I can't comment on the mens' side but the ladies side was very clean and heated by a convector heater, and even on a bitterly cold December weekend was certainly warm enough to get washed and changed in comfort. The pub itself serves good-sized portions of home-cooked food at very reasonable prices; the staff are all very friendly and there's often entertainment on at weekends.

There's nothing in Moortown itself, in fact the place is so small you can't even call it a village - hamlet would be a better word - so if you want a shop the nearest place is a couple of miles away at Nettleton where there's a small village store, or Caistor another mile or two further on. If you need to stock up at a supermarket then Market Rasen is just over seven miles south. The North East Lincolnshire coast is about twenty miles away and the resorts of Cleethorpes and Mablethorpe are easy enough to get to. For anyone camping or caravanning in winter a 'must see' is the large grey seal colony at Donna Nook, about halfway between Cleethorpes and Mablethorpe - the seals are there from mid October to the end of December and the babies are absoloutely adorable.

I think the only possible downside to Skipworth Arms for some campers would be the railway line which runs right past the site. Trains are roughly every half hour during the day with one or two goods trains running at night, and though the passenger trains are fairly quiet the goods trains do make quite a rumble, though personally I wasn't disturbed by any of them. Other than that the site is really peaceful and you'll go to sleep to the sound of an owl hooting and wake to birdsong coming from the trees.

So whether you're into trainspotting, star gazing or fishing, or you just want to get away from the rat race for a couple of days, this hidden gem is a great place to do it, and the pub only a few yards away is a great bonus for those who like a pint in the evenings. Would I go back? - most definitely!

Saturday, as I understood it was a beautifully sunny day. Unfortunately Margaret and I don’t leave work until 4.45pm on Saturdays. As we drove home it was a little dull. We got the caravan out of the garden all ready to go.
A quick cup of tea and !!!!!!!!****** the heavens opened, thunder and lightning. It got worse as we progressed towards our chosen site. I suppose it was too much to expect that a Bank Holiday weekend would be hot and sunny!

Despite all this we had a very enjoyable and restful weekend at the Caravan Club Site at Top Lodge which is just off the A43 between Corby and Stamford and is approached by a narrow road with passing places.
This site of 80 pitches, some hardstandings, is set in the middle of Forestry Commission land. It is open to non-members but booking is required, particularly at weekends. There are no toilet/shower facilities so you have to have these in the van. A small van calls daily and sells newspapers, milk etc.

Just outside the site gate is a very pleasant forest walk of about two miles. If you are very lucky you may even see the odd Deer. A little further afield is the town of Stamford which is well worth a visit. It is also the nearest place for shopping.

To Find Site:-
from Kettering take A43 towards Stamford. After junction with A427 continue towards Stamford on A43, about seven and a half miles turn right signed for Fineshade, Top Lodge. The final approach to the site is a single track road but there are plenty of passing places. Site is immediately past entrance to Forestry Commission Car Park.

This site has 83 pitches of which 31 are gravel chip hardstandings, they are set out around a double loop circular site road. The site is situated right in the middle of Forestry Commission land so it is surrounded by mature trees. It is important to remember that this site has no toilet or shower facilities and campers have to use their own facilities. There are two service points supplying water and waste disposal. Reception sells a few essentials. The site is open to non members for an additional fee but does not accept tents. Television and mobile reception is patchy. We found this a relaxing site and ideal for a peaceful weekend or longer stay.

Next to the site is a Forestry Commission Information Centre which includes a cafe and toilets. Many woodland walks radiate from the Centre. For shopping Stamford, about 8 miles away, is likely the best bet. Rutland Water is not far away.

The site is quite remote so make sure you are stocked up otherwise a trip to Grantham will find a supermarket.

To find the site, travelling north on the A1 continue north past Gonerby roundabout for about 1/2 mile you will see a very large storage warehouse on the right. You need to turn right here (care req. crossing A1) into an unclassified road signed Marston, then take the first right and right again the site is signed from here.

This site is a former Caravan Club CL but it’s main purpose if for fishing.
There are three separate lakes and a smaller lake next to the caravan pitches which would be ideal for the novice. The three large lakes are more specialist.

There are toilets and a shower which are small and basic but kept clean.

The pitches are hardstanding on ash and tarmac chippings and are well drained although there are a bit on the narrow side. There is also electric hook ups.
For those without caravans there are wooden chalets for hire but these are mainly for the fishermen.

This site is off the beaten track and is very relaxing but again is mainly used by fishermen.

Nearby attractions include the market town of Grantham (market day Sat.), Belvoir Castle and the Vale of Belvoir and the National Trust property of Belton House. It would also make a good night halt because of it’s nearness to the A1.

Mrs Wrath A C&CC Certificated Site (5 vans - members only)

Visited for the night of 19th August 2003

The entry to the site is beside the White Swan PH, a good landmark, and where we had an excellent lunch. It is also opposite Torksey Caravans.

As you drive into the site you first encounter what appears to be a graveyard of caravans, with a few modern ones scattered about. How you would get some out without a major operation I dread to think.
....You then find a nice area with some permanently sited touring vans. Go through the gate and you are on the CS. Look carefully and you will find a level pitch overlooking the valley. There are horses in the field to the right, and the junior members of the family lead them through the field. The only facilities are a water tap and chemical disposal point, but what do you expect for £3 a night!

There is a small lake at the bottom of the site where people were fishing, but having paid my dues I did not see anyone that I could ask about it.

Primarily suitable as an overnight stop.

Veiws of the site and lake----- Site----- Lake 1----- Lake 2

Situated just by the A18 in North East Lincolnshire this basic little site is a great place for a chill-out fishing weekend or as a base for exploring further afield. The camping/caravan field itself is just a small part of a much larger site which is currently undergoing development as an equestrian and fishing site which includes holiday cottages and chalet-bungalows. Access from the main road is currently through the stable yard where several horse boxes and various bits of farm paraphernalia are kept so you would be forgiven for wondering if you were in the right place, but once on the site itself you'll find it's a little gem.

Separated from the stable yard on one side by a row of tall conifers and sheltered on the other side by various tall trees and bushes the level field has a dozen hook-up points situated in groups of three and a fresh water tap at each end. Waste bins, grey waste disposal and cdp are all in a small decked area near the entrance, and at the far end of the site is a small fishing lake; on a clear day you can see right across to the Humber estuary from there. The showers and toilets are situated at the lake end of the site, with just one single-occupancy shower/toilet for ladies and the same for men - entry is by a coded key pad which you will be given the number for when booking in. Backing onto the lake are two rows of purpose-built holiday 'cottages' which are all fully furnished and equipped and with a pleasant terrace overlooking the lake. A rough track behind the site leads down past fenced paddocks to a large and very pleasant fishing lake where there are currently three chalet-bungalows being constructed right by the water's edge.

Away from the site itself, about twelve miles south east is the small horse racing town of Market Rasen, and just a five minute drive from the site along the B1203 is Waltham Windmill which is open at weekends and bank holidays from Easter until the end of September; there are several little shops housed in the surrounding buildings, a cafe, Indian restaurant, small garden centre, picnic areas and a miniature railway. Another couple of minutes drive brings you to Waltham village itself where there are shops and takeaways, and the coastal resort of Cleethorpes is five miles further on.

There are only two minor niggles to Willow Lakes, the first one being the proximity to the main road. There is some traffic noise during the day, but although the road is an A road it's not a major one so any noise is bearable and will fade into the background after a while; anyone in a caravan probably won't hear it anyway, and there's not much noise at all at night. The second niggle is the lack of a pot washing area; this probably won't affect any caravan dwellers but any campers will need to either use disposable plates etc or have their own pot washing facilities.

Niggles aside Willow Lakes is a nice compact little site in a nice countryside location situated not too far from the coast, and for anyone who likes fishing it would be well worth spending a weekend there. It wasn't initially my choice as I was meeting up with friends who had already booked, but I liked it enough to want to go back there later in the year.

SITE FEE: - £6.00 PER NIGHT
ELECTRIC HOOK-UP - £2.00 PER NIGHT

This is a very quite site just outside Mablethorpe.

The pitches are situated behind a well-maintained static site. All pitches are flat and electric hook ups are available. There are only 13 electric pitches, so it is advisable to book at busy times.
The toilet come shower block is very basic and quite old with two male and two female showers so when the site is busy you have to wait a while.

You can fish or play golf on the site but you have to pay and there is a small playground for the kids on the static site. You will need to use your car to get into Mablethorpe, which is the nearest place to do any shopping.
There is a pub within walking distance, and across the road from it is a small shop where you can get your milk and daily newspapers.

The following facilities are available at this site; Toilets, Washing-up sinks, Showers, Chemical disposal point, Laundry, Parent and child room, Dog walk. No disabled facilities

Site is in 2 parts - first part near reception is an open field, second part is wooded area around the lake (no fishing) with pitches scattered amongst the trees.
We visited summer 2004 and were in the second part which was beautiful. We gathered that the club had purchased the next door field and were planning to extend the site. There was a suggestion that the wooded part would be turned into a children’s play area and the pitches would all be in the fields. From our point of view that would be a disaster (don’t think the warden was too impressed with it either since lots of people ask for the woodland pitches).

Site is next door to a nature reserve. Lovely area for walking and cycling. Loads of birds, rabbits and bats on site. Ducks come begging on a regular basis!

Being near a lake it can get quite muddy when it rains.
We would like to go back, assuming they haven’t mucked it up with the ‘improvements’....

Pub in Kirkby-on-Bain does fantastic meals. Assorted shops, post office, banks etc in Woodhall Spa itself.
