To Find Site:-
From Daventry on the A425, as you approach Southam bypass watch out sign to left into Welsh Road East signed for Priors Marsden. After about two and a half miles turn left into Holt Road (also campsite sign but partially obscured by bushes) Site on right in a few hundred metres. From Southam bypass take A425 and take first right, then as above. See Map

This campsite is quite rustic and rather CL like. There are around 70 pitches of which a third are taken up with permanent vans. The pitching areas consists of a large oblong field with pitches around the perimeter with electrics, there are a few pitches in the centre without and another smaller field without electrics. There is only one water point which is in the main field, although the immediate area tends to get a bit waterlogged as there is insufficient drain away for excess water. The toilet block, situated next to the entrance, is a little basic but perfectly serviceable and clean. To one side of the toilet block is the chemical toilet emptying point. There appears to be no low level waste water disposal point making it difficult to empty Waste Master type containers. In addition to the main campsite there is a separate rally field which looked quite nice. The site has a fishing pond for which they charge £1 a day. The cost per night is a reasonable £12 a night including two persons and electrics.

When we booked this site we had no idea that there would be so many permanent vans and perhaps explains why they seem to have so few touring vans arriving on site, although it seems quite popular with tenters. We arrived on a Friday around midday and selected our pitch without realising that later we would be surrounded about six families with young children. Both children and parents turned out to quite noisy which did not enhance our weekend at this site. I don’t set out to put people off this site but we did not find it as peaceful as we would have liked which is a shame. Perhaps we were just unlucky and the site might be quieter out of the school holidays.

This campsite is situated right in the middle of some beautiful countryside. A short walk away is the Oxford Canal and the Napton Locks which makes an interesting excursion. In the Orchard next to the Farm they do rather nice cream teas! For shopping there is a general store in Napton about a mile or so away. For more serious shopping Southam would be a better bet.

(Editors note : Pat stayed here with 13 others on a rally field, which is attached to the CL)

A group of about 14 of us each with our own units had sole use of the rally field at this working farm for five nights at a cost of 2 GBP per unit per night.

The farm is about 15 minutes drive south of Stratford on the A3400.

The setting is beautiful - river flowing close by, black faced sheep grazing in nearby field with horses in a distant paddock.

Something like a twenty minute walk across an empty field then along a footpath to village with pub which has a reasonable carvery. (Dogs can be walked off-lead in that field.) Would not recommend returning on foot in the dark!

Plenty of parking to access Stratford on the left just before crossing river to enter town. Usual shopping centre with numerous attractions in and around town - good circular bus service to all these.

Gigantic combined Sunday market and boot fair a couple of miles outside town.

Don’t know how much it, was to stay on the CL but ended up in the rally field. I did note that there was a WC, shower and hook-ups available.

We had a two night stay on this site.

Good facilities for a racecourse site which has a golf course in the centre and is only a ten minute walk away from the town centre.

Major attraction is Warwick Castle which is highly recommended. An historic and interesting town though as the market square is currently being redeveloped it looked a bit of a mess.

Warwick Racecourse (CC managed) Site--- Third report below
Hampton Street
Warwick
Warwickshire
CV34 6HN

Tel: 01926 495 448

This site is situated on the racecourse at Warwick. It is only a five-minute walk into the town.
Unlike some racecourse sites this one has a toilet block for exclusive use of caravans. As we have come to expect it is all kept to the usual Club standards. Pitches here can be picked from grass or tarmac hard standing in front of the grandstand. On the occasion of my visit in late 1997 it was wet so I chose the grandstand. However you cannot put an awning up. On race days you have to move off these pitches to the rear. There is no charge for admission to racing if you are staying on the site.
Dog owners will like this site, as there is a large common directly adjacent to the site.

A visit to Warwick is of course a must. Apart from the castle there are many other things to see. Restaurants and other eating establishments abound. There are three just walking through from the site to the High Street. The site is also convenient for overnight stops being just 15 minutes off the M40 with easy access.

Directions: Leave M40 J15 on to A429 towards Warwick. In 1 mile turn left into Shakespeare Avenue. In 300 yards turn right. Site on left at racecourse entrance in half a mile.

To Find Site:
Leave M40 at junction 15 and take A429 towards Warwick. In about a mile watch for a left turn into Shakespeare Avenue signed to the Racecourse. At the end of the road turn right into Hampton Street. Continue past Racecourse Stands and turn left into Bread and Meat Close, from here the entrance to the site is in view across the racecourse. If coming from the Coventry direction on the A46 bypass continue to junction 15 and then as above to avoid coming through town.

The Warwick Racecourse site has 58 pitches on a mix of grass, hardstandings and tarmac. When booking the non awning pitches they are generally on hardstandings, either stone or tarmac. Depending on conditions motorhome are usually accommodated on the hardstandings. Compared to other racecourse sites we have visited this one is a little more formally laid out. The main facilities are located in the reception building including a small laundry room which doubles up as a information point and behind the office is the toilet/shower block which whilst kept perfectly clean is of an older design. A washing up area and grey and toilet waste points are situated around the outside of this building. There is only the one service point and one other tap at the other end of the site. For motorhomes there is a grey water dump point and a tap for refilling fresh water tanks (no hose provided). Recycling provision is at the site entrance. Access to the site will be restricted on Race Days.

The major advantage of this site is its close proximity to the centre of Warwick which is a short walk away and the Castle a little further on. There are many restaurants and takeaways in the town. For food shopping the is an M&S Food store near the Bus Station. For excursions further afield Royal Leamington Spa and Stratford upon Avon are not far and there is the option of using public transport to these places. The actual Racecourse provides the opportunities for walks and for exercising dogs.
