This, despite it’s Grand title, is a CL with a rally field

It has a windbreak of mature trees along the uphill side and a winter area of hardstanding at the downhill side
There are electric hook-ups for both areas all are 16amp
You do need blocks for the downhill legs and a wedge for the south side of the van too (the site slopes in two directions but not as bad sideways)

There is an almost overgrown fishing pond there too and when we could see through all the rain a really nice view of the Severn Valley towards Upper Arley

Unfortunately for us with grandchildren and a dog the field was totally useless for us being almost totally underwater and very muddy. Our poor little dog (a Shih Tzu) sank in the mud more times than I did and I usually went in almost to my ankles

We went there to use this site as a base for the Severn Valley Railway as it was close by, but didn’t realise the steepness of the hill down to Arley station (1 in 6 but 1 in 4 in places) so we did not visit the pub next to the station

However we journeyed the railway from Bewdley (£31 for family ticket with unlimited rides all day) and the grand-kids really enjoyed it almost as much as me and surprisingly so did Stephanie
Can recommend the pub on Bridgnorth Station sells Beowulf ales and a pint of Dark Raven was very enjoyable

To find site:
On A44 exit at roundabout signed for Broadway on the B4632, the site is on the right in about half a mile immediately under railway bridge.

This site has 115 level pitches all but a handful are hardstanding. The upper section is the original part of the site.
About 3 years ago the site was considerably increased in size by the addition of the lower section where the pitches are all hardstanding. The Club has ensured that there is grass area around all pitches and as the shrubbery grows it will become more intimate.
There is a toilet block on each section. On the lower section the block is of modern design and everything you would expect from the Caravan Club. On the other hand the toilet block on the upper section is something rather special. It is housed in what was the old railway sheds in the Broadway goods yard. I thought the wardens had a very novel way of applying the 12 noon departure rule. Rather than a blanket rule they ask for volunteers, the number dependant on the expected arrivals. I suppose as a lot of people leave before 12.00 noon anyway but their initiative makes everyone happy and perhaps is a way forwards for other sites in the network.

This site is within an easy 10 minute walk of the delightful Cotswold village of Broadway.
There are several restaurants in the village as well as shops and galleries.
Evesham is about 10 miles away and has both a Tesco and Safeway supermarket.
There are various other attractions around and about, details of which can be found in the site information bureau.
A very nice site for either a weekend or longer stay.

Date of last visit May 2004.

Site Report:
The Broadway site is in fact part of the old town railway station. It was originally the platform and lines section but has been extended in recent years with the addition of more pitches on a lower level. The entrance is wide and easy to find being on the right immediately under the railway bridge crossing Station Road opposite the garage. After checking in at reception you can either go into the older original part or loop round and down onto the one way lower section and find your pitch.

There are two toilet blocks on site. The top one is the original station waiting room converted. Both are maintained at the usual CC standards. Water and service points are at the top and bottom of site and each facility block.
The bulk of the pitches are hard standing with just three on grass on the top section.

Reception sells the basics but there is a small convenience store at the garage immediately across from the site. Newspapers are also available at reception prepaid the day before.
Broadway is a member’s only site. Although there are 115 pitches the site has that small site ambience. TV reception is poor but the bollards have a booster system. Wi-Fi is also available but I found reception very poor and not worth the fee for the card.

It is only a ten minute walk into Broadway so is ideal for motor-homers. There is a bus stop right outside the site as well for further afield trips without taking the car.

This is an excellent site which I shall return to. It makes a change to be within walking distance of town for me.

To find site:
From Oxford on A44 and as you approach Broadway, after Fish Hill take the Broadway Bypass. Exit at second roundabout signed for Broadway on the B4632, the site is on the right in about half a mile immediately under railway bridge. Best to avoid towing through the village.

This site has 115 level, good sized, pitches all but a handful are hardstanding. The upper section, with the old railway Goods Shed, formed the original part of the site. The site has since been considerably increased in size by the addition of the lower section where the pitches are all hardstanding. The Club has ensured that there is grass area around all pitches and as the shrubbery grows it will become more intimate. The site has TV hook-ups on each electric bollard, these are free to use but you must have your own cable or buy one from reception. We did have some picture breakups in reception during the evening on some channels.

There is a nice centrally situated children’s playground. There is a toilet block on each section. On the lower section the block is of modern design and everything you would expect from the Caravan Club. On the other hand the toilet block on the upper section is something rather special. It is housed in what was the old railway sheds in the Broadway goods yard.
There are three service points around the site plus water, waste and toilet disposal at the maintoilet block. Some pitches seem a distance from the nearest point so perhaps consider this when selecting a pitch. Also next to the main block is a motorhome service point. Reception sells a few essentials and newspapers can be ordered. Next to reception is a good sized information room. There is site wide Wi-Fi and cards can be purchased from reception. Date of most recent visit March 2012.

This site is within an easy 10 minute walk of the delightful Cotswold village of Broadway. There are several restaurants in the village as well as shops and galleries. A recent addition is a small Budgens supermarket. Evesham is about 10 miles away and has both a Tesco and Morrisons supermarket. There are various other attractions around and about including Broadway Tower and several National Trust Properties. Details of these and other attractions can be found in the site information bureau.

Directions to site:
From north or south exit the M5 at junction 7 and continue to Pershore on the B4084. Once through Pershore cross the river and turn right to Comberton and follow the Golf signs. From Evesham on the B4084 aim for Pershore turning left to Comberton just before crossing the river into Pershore.

The site at Comberton Golf Club is in a beautiful rural setting just outside Pershore.

It is a large grass area, flat and well drained. Access is easy and the site is nice and quiet.
A gravel road runs round the site and there are 30 hard standings with electric hook-ups available.
There are no toilets or showers on the site so it is essential to have on board sanitation. The site is open all year.
The field next to the site is a large rally field which has water to it.
This is a pleasant rural site with a nice atmosphere.

Adjacent is an 18 hole pay and play golf course and there is a small clubhouse with licensed bar open at busy periods.
Fishing is also available on the Avon. I understand it is free although this would need checking.
The site is handily placed to explore the Cotswolds and Malvern Hills.

Pershore is a delightful market town only 1.5 miles away where all the usual shopping and eating facilities can be found.

Kingsgreen Caravan Park--- Second report--- Fishing site
Kingsgreen

Nr. Malvern
Worcestershire
WR13 6AQ

Tel: 01531 650 272

Proprietors: Keith & Jill Davis

Area maps: Large area map and Local map

Visited: May 2003

The site is near Ledbury with Tewkesbury being just a little further out. Gloucester, Cheltenham, Worcester, Hereford & Ross-on-Wye are a short drive away. The Malvern Hills are just a short drive away as well, on the way to Worcester, the view from the top is well worth seeing. The surrounding countryside is very picturesque and quiet.

We found Kingsgreen Caravan Park to be well run, clean & tidy, level and quiet. The owners (Keith & Jill) are very friendly and helpful

Here are a few photos of the site:
House/reception -- Site view 1 -- Site view 2 -- Site view 3 -- Site view 4 -- Top lake 1 -- Top lake 2

Quite a few of the pitches were used for season customers, I would say around half in the two main fields. These pitches are hard standing with a gravel area allowing the owners to mow the grass around the pitches.
The touring areas of the site, mixed in with the season pitches, are level grass marked out with borders giving ample room for caravan, awning and car all side by side.
There are two main areas. The front field which contains the toilet/shower block, with all the normal facilities (Grey waste & toilet disposal, dish washing sinks, laundry room, drinking water and a very well equipped disabled facility with toilet/shower/hand basin all in one room) and the owners house incorporating reception.
The back field, where we were, is approx. the same size having the same general layout.
There is an overflow field beyond that with some electric hook-ups.
Kingsgreen also store caravans on-site.

The toilet/shower block had two showers in each, both controlled by token meters. The token cost 25p, but are well worth it as you get a long, hot shower. One slight moan here, the meters are mounted outside the cubicles, so it’s necessary to get prepared before one drops ones token in. Having said that, the timer is set to take this into consideration.
The block is accessed by key (deposit £5.00), so discouraging parents from allowing kids to do what kids do. Cleaning was carried out twice daily, this and the fact that the toilet block was locked when not in use meant that it was always spotlessly clean, tidy and litter free.

The drainage on the site is good. We know, because it rained an awful lot the week we were there, We didn’t see one area where water gathered.

The site was all originally a working farm, but part was converted over to a touring site 10 years ago. Sheep and cattle still form part of the whole business.

Shopping: Tescos at Ledbury and Safeways at Tewkesbury. Worcester has a large area of shops, not only yer normal multi-nationals, but lots of independents as well (us fellas left after 2 hours. We’d had enough !)

Fishing:
There are two lakes at Kingsgreen, the upper and the lower. The upper lake has a variety of fish, offering carp up to 8-10 pound. The lower lake offered tench (newly stock last year) and carp up to 20 pound. I didn’t fish the upper lake, but it looked like it could be fun. The lower end of the lower lake was subject to some wind and tended to drift floats from right to left. I’ve learnt to fish ’the margins’ for carp. I have also learnt to be a bit cunning, fishing with minimal tackle...floating a crust on 8lb line to a size 10 hook, thats all. I managed a 10lb carp on the first days fishing, but didn’t better that all week !

Conculsions:
A very nice site. Good, clean and well run. The fishing was good and close to all areas.
Going back....you bet. Not sure when, but it’s down for another visit.

Early June saw Lyn & I at Kingsgreen after a gap of 4 years.
The site remains as much as we remembered it, also the welcome was as warm as it was before.
The warm welcome was tested and came out out unruffled when we arrived with two additions, our grand children (7 & 9). Due to last minute changes of plan it was a case of take them for the weekend or stay at home and not leave until the monday.

When we booked we had requested two pitches together as we were meeting with friends from Devon, and near to the entrance to the lakes..my friend is disablied and finds walking any distance very tiring and painful. We got just what we asked for.

The site was tidy and litter free. The grass was kept short at all times....which reminds me...It’s not all profit with caravan sites. The ride-on mower that the owner used went bang while being used, and it turned out that it was pass it’s ’sell by’...the replacement cost...£5,000 !
...anyway...I digress... The site roads were swept regularly giving the whole site a tidy, neat appearance.

The toilet/shower block was cleaned daily and access was by key (£5 deposit). Campers are asked to accompany any children in the block thus avoiding splashed water or toilet paper strewn about.
The gents offered.. 2 cubicles, 3 of the other things, hand basins and 2 showers. The ladies have 3 cubicles, wash basins and 2 showers The showers were token controlled, each costing 25p, a tad more than other sites, but well worth it as the water was hot and lasted as long as a lazy shower could take. The size of the showers would enable a disablied person to shower in comfort, although the access might be a bit tight. There is a disablied shower/toilet which my fried said was just short of excellent, and free of any charge..the shower went on as long as you needed it.

The area:
Ledbury is nearest...a photo of the old market building is a must
Tewkesbury is larger and next away in distance....there’s a Morrisons just outside the town
Cheltenham and Gloucester are about the same distance, both have good shopping centres. The cathedral at Gloucester is worth a visit even though it’s being cleaned up and there’s scaffold marring one side, also look out for the...I’m not sure what it’s called, but the pic will explain...oh..and look down the allyways..some interesting views.

The Fishing:
Kingsgreen has 2 lakes, quite simply an upper one and a lower one.
The top lake, while I didn’t fish this at all, has a good selection of fish, mainly small to medium carp.
The bottom lake is, to my mind, the most interesting. Carp from 4 to 6lb are the normal. There are much much bigger beasties in there, I saw them..ignoring my floating crust !
Both lakes were not busy during the week... my friend and I were the only one’s fishing there for a couple of days. The weekends tend to get busy.
A tackle shop can be found in Ledbury, right on the traffic lights as you go into the town. There might be others in the above mentioned towns and cities.

Plans to return:
Yes, hopefully a little sooner than 4 years :o)

Leedons Park is situated just off the northern end of the Cotswolds on the outskirts of the village of Broadway. There is plenty to do in the area with all of the Cotswold villages within easy reach as well as Stratford and Warwick.

The site itself is level and laid out in 3 separate fields. The main field has a children's adventure play fort and games field in the centre. Pitches are laid out around the perimeter of this field and some are individually hedged. There are 2 toilet blocks in this area and a shower block which serves the whole site. The main toilet block also houses the indoor washing up area and has baths as well as showers.

Elsewhere on site there is an outdoor pool and a pets corner with a duck pond. There is a shop, a small amusement arcade, a T.V. room and a cafe. In high season there is a children's club, a small "train" giving rides around the site and occasional entertainment in the evenings (outdoors - there is no bar or club house!)

This is a very friendly, family orientated site, which is in a very pretty area of the country. The owners are extremely helpful and seem to work hard at making this site a lovely place to stay. Everything is kept clean and tidy and we had no complaints at all on this score. We will definitely be returning to this site, as it is so welcoming and has all the facilities we need without being too big and commercialised. In fact I think it is my favourite site ever!

If you are towing a 'van and heading south when leaving this site, beware! There is a steep hill where we managed to blow our radiator. An alternative route might be advisable!

A great site if you want a quiet week away .. nothing and I mean NOTHING to do for teenagers.. I cant see that a small swimming pool (only open during the summer.. late May onwards) and an unfinished gym are gonna keep them occupied for more than 5 minutes! Good for younger kids though with a nice play area..

The Ranch offers spacious touring areas with grass and hard standing pitches surrounded by hedges and attractive trees and shrubs.
Space is an attribute of this park with modern toilet/shower blocks, all pitches have electric hook ups and a number of multi-service pitches offer mains water, satellite TV and sewer connection.
A Small shop offers very little for sale apart from basics! There is a Spar up the road (out of the gate turn right ..past Wild Fowl trust (A MUST VISIT!! Say hello to my mate Dave the chicken! Don’t ask lol) take the first turn on the left just before the pub. the shops on the left about 200 yards down)

The club is ok, not a lot on but we did go early season. food was cold but so was the beer!
Look for a pub called The Round Of Gras in Badsey Their food is to die for..... And cheap!!

Not to badly priced ..
These prices have been removed as they applied in 2006.

The service buildings are the last remnants of the site’s former use as a military camp:
"Constructed in 1942, Wolverley Camp has had a varied history. Its occupation began in 1943 when the US Army Medical Corps opened its award winning 52nd general hospital. After the hostilities in Europe had ceased the US Medical Corps returned to the states and units of the British Army moved in along with German POWs. The Royal Army Pay Corps has also occupied Wolverley Camp and at one point there were plans to turn Wolverley Camp into a prison".

Reception and a recreation room are in one block and toilet, wash-up and laundry (£2 wash, 20p dryer, 20p Iron) facilities in the other. There is a fully accessible disabled section.

Welcome was warm and friendly. The site was busy. It has 120 pitches, all grass, with about 40% level area although much of it is gently sloping. There are plenty of hook-ups and a Motorhome service point.

There is a pub, The Lock, alongside the canal just outside the site. Nearest general store is a Tesco Express in Cookley, about 1 mile along the canal tow path or 2 miles by road. You can also walk a couple of miles into Kidderminster.

We went to Cadbury World on Sunday on the basis that it would be dry and joined several hundred others there. If you go you should pre-book and get a start time. They issue timed tickets for ten minute intervals. The tour takes about 1.1/2 hours and there are other bits to do as well. www.cadburyworld.co.uk

CS appears to be in 2 halves, 10 tents in one area and 5 vans in the other. You don’t get the views over the surrounding countryside so much here, but it is more sheltered. Some statics on site.

There is also a large rally field, which slopes a bit in all directions, but has great views over the surrounding countryside. This is where we stayed during its use as a temporary holiday site. There are some areas which are more level than the average and these are used for motorhomes (we managed to level without too much problem).

Site has portakabin type facilities block, cleaned and stocked regularly while we were there. Washing machine and tumble drier, token operated (currently £2 and £1). Dishwashing sink. Ladies has 2 loos and a third compartment with both loo and shower (coin machine outside cubicle(!) - 50p, I think), 3 non-cubicle washbasins. EHU in CS and rally field (may have been 10amp, not sure).

Site sells gas and accessories such as loo chemicals at good prices. Phone box on site. Some tourist info and list of essential services (doctor, hospital, vet etc.) in dishwashing area. Friendly staff.

Dog walk goes off around the fishing ponds and appears to be quite extensive. Seats provided overlooking the fishing ponds. Fishing was £2 per half day IIRC.

Small well-stocked Londis shop (inc Post Office) a few yards along the main road. Opposite shop is a pub doing food, which was recommended to us by other campers, but we didn’t try it.

Nice site, well maintained, would go back.

THS was £7.50 for motorhome, 2 adults and EHU per night. No idea of charges for CS.
