From north or south head for Troyes and follow signs to Pont Ste Marie and then Camping Municipal, it is well signed.

This site is in the suburbs of Troyes and the centre of the town is only a 10 minute walk away. It is almost exclusively used as a transit site for those travelling north or south although it would be worth a longer stay. The site starts to get busy from about 4.00pm but there is usually room. Reception sells bread, ice cream and a selection of local wines. Entrance is barrier controlled but you are usually not issued with a card if only staying one night. Reception is open until 10.00pm which makes it ideal for late arrivals.

The site contains many mature trees which provide a good level of shade, pitches are divided by shrubs and bushes. There is one central toilet/shower block which is modern and kept very clean. At the entrance is a garage and a short walk away is small supermarket.

To find Site:-
Leave autoroute at either Langres Nord or Sud. From the south take N19 signed for Versoul and watch out for signs to Lac de la Liez. The campsite is signed from the main road. From the north in Langres, just follow signs to Lac de la Liez which takes you via Peigney. The entrance is just over the brow of a hill as you see the lake so be careful!

This campsite, which accepts Camping Cheques, is a more peaceful alternative to the Municipal in Langres. In fact from this site you can see the walled town of Langres.
The pitches are in the main laid out on a terraced basis, although at the far end of the site the pitches take on a more usual look. Pitch size varies and for a longer stay you might want to be more selective. It had been very wet before we arrived and during our short visit and some pitches were a bit muddy. Having said that there are pitches with a gravel surface which stand up better to the conditions.
There are two new toilet blocks which are to a high standard.
Each pitch has access to electrics, water and waste water.
There is ample parking at the entrance to the site and one imagines that one could use this as a late arrivals area although I would suggest you confirm this with the site!
The reception area also includes a small shop, takeaway, restaurant, terrace and indoor swimming pool. A new outdoor swimming pool was under construction.
The campsite also offers a number of chalets for hire.

We used this campsite for an overnight stay on our way South. It would make a perfect spot for a longer stay with walks around the lake and visits to the lovely walled town of Langres.

To Find Site:-
The easiest approach to this site is from the Reims direction on the D951. At roundabout follow road signed for Cumieres and site a few hundred metres along this road on the right by stadium. Approaching from the A26 at Chalons on the D3 requires a bit more care. Follow signs for Reims and the Paul Chandon Stadium, these signs also have a camping graphic. Then as above.

The Municipal at Epernay is typical of many in France. It is part of a larger sports complex which can be busy especially at weekends, so don’t expect a quiet site if there is an event. It is much more peaceful during the evening and through the night. The pitches are of a good size and divided by hedges. There are also lots of mature trees around the campsite. Electric (5amp) is available to most pitches and water points are dotted around the site. The toilet block looks as if it has been recently refurbished to an excellent standard with all English style seated toilets but no paper supplied. Each morning a bread van calls. Although the site does not have a restaurant there is a mobile takeaway on site with picnic chairs. In one corner of the site is a BBQ area. Children are well catered for with a good playground as well as places to play ball games. Date of visit late June 2007.

The centre of Epernay is within walking distance and reception will give you a map of the town. It is famous for being the Champagne Capital of France and tours are available at some of the Houses. Not far from the site is a Carrefour supermarket.

Camp Municipal--- Second report
Rue de Plaisance

Champagne-Ardenne Region
France

Tel/Fax: 00 33 32 66 83 800

To find site: - Approach Chalons, from north or south on the N44, watch out for exit signed for St Memmie and follow camping signs. Don’t worry that you appear to be going through a built up housing area with traffic calming! In the final approach to the site keep a special watch out for the sign as it is low down on the corner of the road, at traffic lights, where you turn left into the road leading to the site entrance. (Chalons has recently changed its name from Chalons-sur-Marne to Chalons-en-Champagne and some signs still use this name; no doubt they will gradually be phased out and replaced by the new name)

This municipal site is quite large. It is situated in an urban park area complete with tennis courts and crazy golf. There is also a small lake adjacent to the camping area. The whole park and camping is surrounded by housing with clever use being made of the space. The pitches are either gravel divided by hedges or grass which are more open and all are of a generous size.
There are two toilet/shower blocks which are of a good quality and well looked after. The block nearest Reception has clothes washing and drying facilities.
The site does not have a shop but bread can be ordered from Reception. Opposite Reception there is a takeaway and seating area, hardly a restaurant but a useful facility for those that don’t want to cook. There are a few shops just a short walk from the site.
This is a very popular site and fills up quite quickly. We arrived about 2.00pm (mid August) and it was fairly empty but by 6.00pm it was pretty full. Some have commented that this site is expensive compared to some municipals. We paid 18.80 euros for two of us with electrics, this still worked out less than the CC site, Black Horse Farm with similar facilities, so I was happy to pay that price. Obviously this site is mainly used for overnight stays en route to other places but it would be worthy of a longer stay.

Highly recommended site.

As with most municipal sites this is well signposted from all routes in.
This site was well recommended by quite a few fellow vanners and we were not disappointed.
Approached from a residential street towards reception, very helpful at reception and we were directed to our pitch.
It appears that one section of the site is reserved for overnight caravanners.

Overall there must be about 200 pitches, the majority with electric. All pitches are gravelled and are standard French Pitch size with hedges separating each pitch and are laid out very nicely.

Facilities are good, showers and toilets are clean and there is a pool/table tennis room and TV room. A nice childrens play area along with Tennis courts/Basketball court and crazy golf course provide entertainment for all.
A nice lake is next door, not sure if you can fish it or not but many ducks and a few vicious swans patrol it’s waters and shores! Approach the swans at your own risk!

Lastly there is an onsite Bistro where it has a nice selection of food and never ending fries! This was just the meal/service I needed after a hot drive up from Macon.

Overall a very good municipal site showing what is good about France and the love of outdoors, the fact that every small town has a Municipal Camp site and celebrates that fact rather the blinkered attitude we have in the UK says a lot to me! I would heartily recommend this site to anyone, whether as a stopover heading to the south-east or a visit to the champagne region, I will certainly return again!

This is an excellent municipal campsite with around 150 pitches. It is situated in an urban setting next to a park area complete with tennis courts and crazy golf. There is also a small lake which forms one boundary of the campsite. The whole park and camping is surrounded by housing with clever use being made of the space. The pitches are either on gravel hardstandings divided by hedges or grass which are more open and all are of a generous size. Some pitches have water and waste adjacent. Electricity is accessible to the non tent pitches and is rated as 10 amp.
There are two toilet/shower blocks which, whilst kept clean and serviceable with seated toilets and paper provided. However they are now a little dated and could soon need a makeover. The block nearest Reception has clothes washing and drying facilities. The site does not have a shop but bread can be ordered from Reception. Opposite Reception there is a takeaway and seating area, hardly a restaurant but a useful facility for those that don’t want to cook.

There are a few shops on the main road just a short walk from the site. Pricing I feel is a bit on the steep side at 22 euros per night (2009) for a Municipal but at least you are getting a good quality campsite that can cope with most weather conditions. To counter this the site does have free WiFi which is site wide. This is a very popular overnight site and fills up quite quickly in the busy part of the season.

We have only ever used this site for overnight stays en route so it is difficult to comment on local facilities and places of interestr. Reception can help with this and its certainly a site that could be considered for a longer stay.

Up-date 2012:- We stayed here overnight in early May. The site is now in private hands and apart from the introduction of some mobile homes for hire there is little evidence of any other improvements. The toilet block is dire need of improvement and the second block was not open. On a more positive note the site now accepts Camping Cheques which give a considerable saving over the standard fees.

To find site, approach from any direction and follow ’Centre Ville’ signs and the site is well signed in the town. Although from a distance the approach looks very steep access is easy.
This is a useful site for an overnight stop when going north or south through France being about 320 miles south of Calais.

The Reception Office on this site is only manned for part of the day, between 5.00pm and 9.00pm during our visit. It is therefore accepted that you site yourself and pay when the man arrives at the office. There are several grass pitching areas but as a consequence of the site not being manned permanently campers can pitch a little haphazardly. There is also a tarmac area which could be used by motor caravans. A long electrical lead maybe necessary.
Early arrival might be needed in high season as the site fills up from mid afternoon. This site has a superb location situated on the ramparts of the walled town giving lovely views out over the surrounding countryside. Mind you it can be a bit windy.
There is one central toilet/shower block. These are kept clean but all but two of the toilets are of the Turkish style. The town is right outside the entrance of the campsite. It looks as if you can walk round the walls of the town directly from the site.

My one reservation about this site is that there is public access through the site from the ramparts and so therefore it is something of a thoroughfare. As the site is not always manned I think extra care needs to be taken with belongings. In fact there is a notice on the reception wall advising visitors not to leave equipment outside unattended.

115 Touring pitches, €15 night when we were there in September (€25 Summer).
Electricity was 6 amp and we never had any problems with it tripping out.
There is 1 water tap per pair of pitches along with a drain for grey waste.

The site is quite hilly with the pitches laid out on terraces.
Don’t try to take a short cut to the top of the site or you’ll find yourself sat with your wheels spinning like I did......(until the car decided to take the power away - lovely thing traction control).

There is a lake and restaurant/bar. We never tried the food as there is a supermarket about 10km from the site in Joinville where we stocked up with the essentials.

Toilet blocks are clean and well maintained but some of the showers had rather low water pressure (use the ones alongside the laundry as these have bigger feed pipes and a full 40 seconds of water from 1 button push - yes, I timed it...).

There is a heated indoor pool and small shop where you can order bread and pastries for the following day.

There are some gites, statics and Eurocamp tents on the site but mainly empty when we were there.

The staff were all either English or Dutch and seemed to be students or on a gap year. This kind of removed the "Frenchness" of the holiday for us as we like to practice our French whilst over there.

This is a Castels Site and takes Camping Cheques.

This is a rural but well appointed campsite which is a little off the beaten track, but worth a detour for people travelling south on the A26 if you want to break your journey for a day or two; if you want somewhere to simply stopover it is probably too much of a detour.
The area is rural, pleasant and quiet; it is about 3 miles to the local village and 8 or 9 miles to the nearest town, Joinville.

It is large enough to be comfortable, but not so large as to feel like a factory Campsite. The pitches are not enormous, but are large enough for most units.

We only stayed one night, so didn’t get to see the area; it seemed to be a place to go to chill out, rather than a place with a lot of tourism, but it was a pleasant place to chill out.

Despite its location it is well appointed and equipped; there is an indoor heated swimming pool in a large room; it has a feel of a Roman Bath to it, a play area and a football pitch. Facilities are clean and there are enough of them to go round. There is a takeaway on site, and a reasonably sized shop.
The owners are friendly and speak good English.

Site visited September 2006

Our first stop on our journey to the South of France, approx. 270 miles from leaving Eurotunnel.

The village of Eaux Puiseaux is off the beaten track, but as a result is very peaceful, and for us was only an overnight halt. More’s the pity as it is a beautiful site, very well maintained with large grass pitches.

The toilet/washrooms are immaculate, and you can breakfast on site on fresh croissants!
The area is well worth a longer visit, with bathing in a nearby river, and some beautiful countryside.
