Severac Le Chateau
Midi-Pyrenees Region
France

Tel: 0565476482

Email: contact@camping-calquieres.com
Web site: www.camping-calquieres.com

To Find Site:
From Junction 42 on A75 take road towards Severac Le Chateau. Follow signs to campsite and Centre Sportif. Perhaps best not to rely on sat nav as there is a risk of being taken along some narrow roads.

Camping Calquieres is set at the foot of the old town of Severac Le Chateau. It makes a handy stop over en route north or south on the A75. New arrivals are invited, when reception is closed, to find a pitch and report back later. The site is terraced but pitches are generally level with perhaps a little fore and aft levelling required. All pitches are on grass and are divided by young hedging. Some have trees in awkward places which might have been caused by making the pitches larger. They vary in size but most are of reasonable size and some quite large. Electric points are rated at 6 amps and have a mix of CEE17 and 2 pin connectors. Water is generally available from the toilet blocks although there are a few taps dotted around. The two Unisex toilet blocks are of a good standard and contain unseated pedestal toilets with paper provided in the cubicle. At the back of reception is a Bar/Snack/Restaurant area with a terrace overlooking the rather nice covered swimming pool. There is also a small playground. Across from reception is a TV/WiFi room. The Wifi is only available in this area of the campsite but is free. The site accepts the ACSI Card during the low season.

From the site there is a footpath up to the old town which dominates the surrounding area. For shopping there is a Netto and an Intermarche within about a kilometre of the site. For those staying longer than a transit stop there are many excursions that could be taken from the campsite.

Camping au bord de L’Aisne
14 bis rue de Godins
12190 Guignicourt
Midi-Pyrenees Region
France

Tel 0323797458

To Find Site: Leave junction 14 on A26 onto D925 in the direction of Guignicourt. On entering town pass under railway bridge and continue through town. Watch out for camping sign just before Peugeot Garage and turn sharp right down the side of garage. At the end of the road do a right/left dogleg into site entrance. The final approach to reception is down a short sloping ramp and watch for slightly raised kerb and drain across road at entrance.

This delightful campsite is on the edge of the small town of Guignicourt is set out along the banks of the River Aisne. The former Municipal Campsite is now in private hands. The reception/bar/snack building is fairly recent as is the rather nice small sliding roofed swimming pool. The delineation of the 80 or so pitches also looks as if they have been recently changed as many to the shrubs, dividing the pitches, are still quite new and not yet fully established. Pitches are all on grass and vary in size. Whilst there are a few smaller ones most are well over 100 sq mts and some just massive! There are some mobile homes for hire although these are in their own section of the site. There are also some seasonal pitches. Electric points use CEE17 blue connectors and are rated at 6 amps. Might be best to check for reverse polarity. Water points are dotted around the campsite although there are not many within easy reach of some of the riverside pitches. Perhaps the one disappointment of the campsite is the toilet block which is of the older variety with a mix of Turkish and unseated pedestal toilets and no paper provided. Given the upgrades elsewhere on site perhaps the toilet block is next on the list? Bread can be ordered at reception. Pizzas are available either as a takeaway or at the Bar. There is site wide WiFi at an additional charge. Date of visit early July 2012.

The town is a short walk from the campsite either along the river or the road. The site is ideally based for a stopover point, about 2 miles from the A26, to and from Calais although it does warrant a longer stay. Many of the First World War sites are within easy reach and reception has a stock of leaflets, including some in English. For shopping there is a small Carrefour Market supermarket in the town centre about half a mile from the site and they also have a small fuel station, however large motorhomes could have difficulties with access to the pumps.

Mobile reception OK.

To find site:-
Once on Millau ring road follow signs to ’Les Camping’ watch out for signs to Les Rivages. Make sure you only attempt to enter site at the ’entrée’ sign as there is an earlier sign which is a bit confusing.

Camping Les Rivages has about 300 pitches, mostly for tourers/tents although there are some mobile homes but these tend to be in their own areas. The site is open from 1st May until 30th September.
The pitches radiate out from the reception area and are of a good size and level, most with plenty of shade. Water and electric points are handy to all pitches. Some of the pitches next to the River Dourbie appear to be a bit smaller but in reality seem perfectly OK.
This site has many superb facilities including squash and badminton courts, a lovely swimming complex, restaurant and takeaway. There are about 4 toilet blocks dotted around the site but out of season not all will be open. There is a small shop selling basics and bread but it is only open until 11.00am. The site is in walking distance of Millau but during the summer heat some may find this difficult.
By and large this is an excellent site although I did have a couple of grips. Whilst I appreciate that the site was not full I felt that only having one toilet block open was a bit mean. The shop was only open for 3 hours a day and there were occasions when it had sold out of bread by 10.00am, hardly what you expect from a 4 star site. This is only one of many sites situated quite close together in Millau. For those with smaller outfits/motor caravans/tents there appear to be some lovely sites out in the Gorges.

The beauty of this area is the three gorges, Tarn, Jonte and Dourbie. All are worth the car journey and we were surprised how quiet they were compared to the Ardeche. Close by is Roquefort where you can tour the cheese making process? For those interested in Knight Temperlers there are several sites in the area. There are several supermarkets in the town but the largest is on the Cahors road.

The directions say from Clermont-Ferrand A75, exit 45 or from Montpellier A75, exit 47. Then follow ’campings’ signs as far as the ’Pont de Cureplat’ bridge, towards ’Paulhe D187’ at the roundabout, 1st camp site on the left.

Located in the town of Millau, Aveyron, France

ACSI camping card site 12 euro per night in 2008 plus tourist tax. Helpful reception with a small bar restaurant. This is one of a series of sites close together by the river Tarn, though this is in the department Aveyron, not Tarn, also quite a distance from the Tarn Gorges.

Easy walk into town, centre of glove making and so some specialist shops. Possible to walk along the river and also up into the hills on marked trails. Good area for mountain biking, canoeing and paragliding. Guided minibus tours from the town to the viaduct.

Excellent toilet and shower facilities.

Camping St Martin
The Vigariés

Midi-Pyrenees Region
France

Tel: 05 63 73 28 99

Email: campings.occitanie@orange.fr
Web site: www.campingsaintmartin.com

To find site: North or south on the D622 Castelnaudary-Castres road take the road in Revel towards Soreze, initially D1 and then D85. In Soreze follow road through town and watch out for sign pointing left to campsite. Initially this road looks narrow but it’s only between two buildings and widens out immediately. The campsite entrance is on the right at the green sign.

St Martin is a small peaceful campsite, probably a former municipal, just off the road that runs through Soreze. It only has about 40 touring pitches and about a dozen chalets for hire. The pitches vary in size but there are some good sized ones if you search them out. Many fairly private. A few smaller ones have an area to hardstanding which are more suited to motorhomes on short stays. Pitches are individually divided by shrubs and bushes and there are plenty of mature trees to provide shade, although this might be troublesome if you want to get satellite reception. Water points are dotted around the site but the only disposal point for grey water is at the motorhome service point although I am sure there would be no objection to disposing of it around the site planting. Electric points are via CEE17 blue connectors and are rated at a useful 10 amps. Although perhaps best to check for reverse polarity. There is one toilet block which is kept very clean and had seated pedestal toilets and paper provided. There are also some nice touches with soap and towel being provided. Next to reception is a small covered eating area with the site offering a fairly basic menu and there is also a bar. Next to this is a rather nice small swimming pool. For children there is a playground and volley ball court. The site offers free WiFi although not site wide. Out of the high season the site accepts the ACSI discount card.

There are eating places in the town only a short stroll from the campsite as well as a small supermarket and bakers. Soreze is also worth a wander round as it has many old features and details of its past detailed at key points through the town in both French and English. Revel is about 5 miles away and offers more extensive shopping opportunities including an Intermarche with fuel. It is also has an interesting Centre Ville which is well worth having a look at.

Sheila & Stuart Coe

Site visited: 2003

We stayed here for only 4 nights on the way to a longer stay at a campsite in Spain and wished we had stayed longer. Chateau de Lacomte is owned and run by an English family, the Coes (who featured on a TV programme about couples who left Britain for the good life in France), so no language barriers here!

The campsite is set in the middle of the countryside in the Causses du Quercy Regional Natural Park and is very quiet. It has a great swimming pool overlooked by the bar and restaurant where the English cooks turn out tasty regional dishes that apparently surprised the local French population with its quality (they don’t think Les Rost Boefs can cook).

The pitches are very large and generally divided up by hedges

As I said, the campsite is in the middle of the countryside and you’ll need a car or bikes to travel around - even to the nearby village which always seemed to be shut. Rocamadour is a twenty minute drive away and is definitely worth a visit. It’s an old medieval village perched on the side of a cliff.

The Dordogne River is also a short drive if you fancy a lazy canoe trip.

The campsite can be found in the Camping and Caravanning Club’s Carefree Holidays brochure.

We would like to let you know about a lovely campsite near the river Lot in Aveyron.

Our extended family has stayed there several times over the last few years and recommend it highly for it’s peaceful, scenic setting and warm welcome from the owners Jean-Laurent and Karine Verdeaux.

It is a two star graded site with 65 easily accessible pitches all near the river, many have some shade. There are two unpretentious toilet blocks with usual facilities, plenty of hot water, plus washing machine.
On-site are childrens play equipment, table tennis, tennis and boules. Canoeing is available nearby and great local food at several markets in the area.

There is access from the site via pebbly beaches to the beautiful river Lot, which flows shallow and fast near the site with good deeper swimming areas a little further downstream.

The snack bar serves good value local food, with various "entertainment" evenings. More information and photographs are available using the web address above.

The atmosphere is relaxed, the local villages (St Parthem, Conques, La Vinzelle ) and countryside really beautiful and it is certainly a place we will return to again.

Hope this information can be used !!
