Date of visit end July 2002

Mobile reception OK but be prepared to change Network to get best signal.

To find site: - The site is just off the D231, A4 to Provins road. If approaching from the Paris direction go through Le Plessis-Feu-Aussoux, just before village exit sign turn left at sign. From the Provins direction turn right immediately entering village.

This site has 125 pitches, most of a generous size set out in wooded surroundings. Electrics and water points are dotted around the site; some pitches even have individual waste/water points. There are two toilet blocks, both of older design but kept very clean. There was only one working shower block (whilst we were there), which is fairly new, but sited near reception and some way from the majority of pitches. Likewise the chemical disposal point, which was designed by someone who has never had to empty a caravan loo before! The site has no Bar, Restaurant or Shop but you can order bread at reception the day before. The prominent users of this site are people from the UK and Holland and they are generally here to visit Disneyland Paris, the nearby Chateaux or Paris and for this the site is ideal. However it offers nothing other than a fairly pleasant, peaceful place to site the van to visit those places mentioned. If you want the facilities that this site does not provide you would be better looking elsewhere. I have to say that this site did grow on me and the welcome by the owners was one of the best we had ever received.

If you need a supermarket there are good ones in Coulommiers, 10 miles, and Provins, 20 miles. I did note that several people said that they had stopped at towns whilst out visiting other attractions. Vaux-le-Vicomte and Fontainebleau are within easy travelling distance as is Provins a fascinating medieval walled town. Disneyland Paris seems to be the main attraction and is only about 20 miles. The site will willingly make suggestions as to where you may park if you wish to visit the centre of Paris.

This campsite is signed from both north and south on the N10, initially as just Camping and then by it’s name.
From the north directions are quite simple. Leave N10 at exit named Rambouillet Les Eveuses and follow signs to site which is about 2 kms down a road that runs parallel with the N10 and then bares left past the lake to the campsite.
From the south watch out for sign to exit the N10, follow signs for camping that take you under the N10 and then back onto southbound carriageway. Stay in right hand lane and take Les Eveuses exit as above.

I have to say that this campsite grew on me the longer we stayed. At first I got the impression that it was a bit run down. However during our 5 day stay at the end of May 2006 work seemed to in progress to get the campsite ready for the main season.
Given that it is so close to the centre of Paris and near to the town of Rambouillet it is an oasis of tranquillity, certainly during the week. There is more activity during the weekend because of the adjacent country park.

There are about 200 pitches, almost all with electricity and some with water and drainage. The site is heavily wooded with many magnificent mature trees which whilst providing shade can make some parts of the site a bit dark. However the pitches nearer to Reception are more open. It seems that the pitches are in various nooks and crannies which gives the site an informal feel. Most are on grass but some have a gravel base as in the past the campsite has been open nearly all year although now it seems to have a more restricted opening period. Size varies but most are quite large.

There are two toilet blocks which whilst perfectly adequate are a bit past their best. Toilets are a mix of Turkish style with the odd English ones. There was a bit of a drain smell which I think was through lack of ventilation.

One disappointment was that the shop/restaurant was closed and is not likely to be open for the rest of 2006.
Bread can be ordered daily from Reception.
This campsite accepts Camping Cheques and is used equally for overnight stays and longer stays. In common with most French campsites there are some permanent caravans but not that many.

This site is convenient for visits to Paris by train. The Palace of Versailles is accessible by train or car. A little further away is Monet’s Garden at Giverny.
Rambouillet has a fine Chateau and Park and Chartres is an easy drive away.
For shopping there are several supermarkets in Rambouillet, the best being the Carrefour.

Being on the edge of a Country Park there are lots of opportunities for walks and cycle rides and it looks as if fishing is available in the adjacent lake.

This site is now privately run and sports the name ’Huttopia.’ The site still had spaces on Saturday evening in August. The pitch numbering is invisible from your car so have a reccy on foot before attempting to pitch. Being wooded, the site has a number of car and caravan and car bashing obstacles easily avoided by good planning and use of a motor mover. Don’t ask me how I know, please! Some of the bushes and trees need trimming in my opinion to improve sightlines for manoeuvring. The pitches are fine for a short stay with hook up and water close by.

There is evidence of new investment as the toilet blocks are now new log cabin style sizeable buildings with ample showering facilities. There are modern loos with paper! All regularly cleaned.

It would appear that the old French static touring vans have been removed from the site and there are a few new log cabins available to rent.

There is a bar/cafe in the reception block which does simple wholesome meals and freshly baked pizzas, manned by friendly, helpful young staff. Bread is available to order and there is a tiny shop. The swimming pool looked a bit gloomy under trees but then I don’t like swimming.

The receptionist speaks enough English for me with my schoolboy French to make a telephone booking the day before - paid by Visa over the phone - no fee, just the site cost.

This is a good stop if you are coming up from the Dordogne area as by leaving at 0800hrs you can get to Calais by 1400hrs without rushing and still have time to get somewhere in S E England before it gets dark in the summer.

There is a big supermarket close by to enable purchases of washing powder (especially Calgon), cheese and the odd bottle of French wine. With the euro at 1.2 to the pound these are the only things I brought back.

Overall recommended.
I hope that is review is helpful.--- Editor note: Thank you Ian, it is indeed

The site entrance-- Site road, showing the statics-- Our pitch

The site is about 30kms west of Paris, in the open countryside on the outskirts of the village.

The nearest shops are 10 minutes away in Breval, which has a supermarket for all groceries. Breval also has a railway station and trains to Paris take one hour. By car Paris is about 45 minutes drive.

Having traded in our 20 year old Bailey Mikardo, which we didn’t dare take out of the UK, for a 5 year old ABI Award Brightstar, this was our first trip abroad.

We had read that touring pitches in France are much smaller, so were pleasantly surprised by the vast pitches on this site. It is laid out in streets, each pitch fronting a tarmac road and every pitch bounded by laurel hedges on three sides, so quite secluded. There is plenty of chance to strike up a conversation with the neighbours, however, on the long walk to the main facilities near the entrance.

There is a large shower, toilets, washing and ironing and dishwashing block, kept scrupulously clean. So is the outdoor swimming pool with its own changing rooms.

There is a small shop on site but it seems to sell only wine, coca cola and ice cream. A car journey to Breval is required for provisions.

The site was originally a farm and one of the barns has been converted to a small picturesque bar. Whilst most of the facilities are a long walk, fresh water taps are every few yards around the site.

Journey time from Calais is about 3 hours thanks to the opening of the new section of the A16 auto-route from south of Bolougne to Rouen. This is now a good, less busy, alternative route to Paris.

Various UK companies, such as Eurocamp, use the site, with tents and mobile homes. Nationalities tend to be segregated, one area for the French, another for the Germans, although the Dutch fit in anywhere.
Monsieur and Madame who run the site speak little English, but that gives the holiday a good French flavour. They were very welcoming and shook hands and wished us safe journey home, when we left.

We booked and paid in advance but we not asked to pay the extra awning charge, advertised as payable on site.

Unfortunately heavy overnight rain before our departure caused both car and caravan to sink into the level grass pitch and we were stuck. Monsieur produced an ancient tractor and towed us out, with apologies for the weather and no complaint that we had left large ruts in the ground.

We would certainly visit Camping Domain D’Inchelin again, which is well placed for visiting Paris and touring central France. It is part of the French Camping Sites and Payages group, which has its own web site.

The house and garden of famous painter Monet, is at Giverny, just 30 minutes drive from the site and well worth a visit.
We also visited Journee de Plantes, at Courson Chateau, south of Paris, the French equivalent of the Chelsea Flower Show, held every May and September.

Camping Jablines
F77450 Seine et Marne (near Disneyland)
Ile-de France Region
France

This is a qualified review, for the following reason. Jablines is a campsite which has use of the "Base de Loisirs", an enormous swimming/boating/watersports area just east of Paris. Unfortunately when we were there it was closed, due to a Salmonella problem in the water, so this is really a review of the site rather than its facilities.
What we used was excellent - the facilities are well kept and clean (the showers are very spacious), there is a shop selling all the usual stuff, a very friendly and helpful bunch of people worked there (one of whom was almost manically enthusiastic about everything).
Pitches are well laid out and easy to find, with water and electricity there or close.

Excellent for Disneyland (about a 10 minute drive down some back streets) or for the manic shoppers (like my other half) there’s an enormous hypermarket at Claye Souilly (about five minutes away). The site reception has tickets for Disneyland on sale which can cut down on queuing time.

As regards entertainments and leisure facilities;
apart from a small play area, they were all shut because of the Salmonella problem, so no comment there. But of the Disneyland area sites we’ve visited, comfortably the best; now that Davy Crockett (nice but pricey) no longer takes campers.

Village Parisienne is really a mobile home site with camping added on, and this shows in its design and implementation. There were very few water points (we could only find two) or sanitary points, and limited showering/toilet facilities, though what there were were clean.

There is a small play area, and a jaw droppingly cold swimming pool (given it was 28-30 when we were there); this is the only pool my 8 year old son has ever refused to go in because it was too cold.
The shop was very basic and seemed to be disorganised; ordered bread seemed to disappear at random; the staff were welcoming but very difficult to find; the reception seemed to be hardly ever manned.

Access is poor for large units; the paths for vehicles are very narrow.
The pitches are quite large but surrounded by high hedges; this means that there is plenty of privacy but gives a slightly claustrophobic feel.
When we were there there were very late and very noisy entertainments, till about 1:30am.

This site is handy for Disneyland and Parc Asterix, but I can’t really recommend it to campers and caravanners.
