Date of visits: June 2006 & June 2007

Directions:
The site is situated 500m from the RD143. It can be a bit of a run to get here as I am not certain if caravans are taken on the ferries across the Seine and they do not seem to run to a schedule! From the A13 motorway: exit at junction 25, then follow D913 & D490. After crossing the Pont de Brotonne turn right on D982 to Yainville And D143 to Jumieges. From the A29 motorway: exit at the junction for Yvetot, then towards the Brotonne bridge. Before the bridge, follow direction Trait, then Jumièges as above. From Rouen: Follow direction Duclair, then Jumièges.

This charming little site is West of Rouen in the area where the River Seine winds round in a large "U". We were on our way South and this was a convenient stopover on our way.
It is a quiet rural place. Although only a night halt on this occasion it was so peaceful we both said it was the sort of place we could stay a few days.

Camping La Foret has 88 touring pitches and the remainder are static holiday homes. Some of the pitches are a little tight for large outfits as the road is a single track round which makes reversing on awkward unless you have a mover.

The toilet block is extremely clean and heated. There is a small shop in reception. There are also laundry facilities along with a television room, and a motor home service point. Groceries are available in high season. Other on site facilities includes a heated pool and paddling pool. One access road serves the site and the hedged pitches are fairly level.

The village is a 500 metre walk and there are bars and shops here. Our itinerary meant we did not have time to research but a short drive round the surrounding area showed it to be very pretty and Rouen itself is not far away. I sat and watched some large ships on the Seine. Camping cheques are accepted.

We returned to this site in June 2007 on our way North from Saumur. We found it just as nice as our first visit although I would reiterate the tight pitches as we allocated one which I just could not turn down without un-hitching and pushing and I just do not "do" pushing! This year we walked into Jumieges and found a lovely restaurant.

We spent our first site 2 nights was Camping du Foret at Jumiege (nr Rouen). It’s ok for stop over, facilities cleaner than I have at home, shop stocked virtually nothing, pool good but outdoor and indoor play areas were very limited.

Pitches were nicely hedged around and quite private, although I prefer to be a bit more exposed and able to chat to neighbours!!

We had the best moment of the holiday when we went to Rouen. We took the horse drawn tour and it was fab, especially when the driver geed up the horses as we went through the narrow winding lanes in the park...I really thought they were out of control!

From the northern end of the Pont de Brotonne take the D982 towards La Trait and then take D143 to Jumieges. In Jumieges follow signs to campsite. NB: It would not be advised to take one of the ferries across the Seine whilst towing a caravan. Although the ferries seem large enough, capacity for 8 cars and height of 3 metres, access over the ramps at certain state of tides could cause a problem.

Camping de la Foret is situated on the edge of the village of Jumieges and is only a short walk from the famous Abbey ruins. It is open from April through to the end of October which is handy for those travelling during the Autumn.
There are about 75 touring pitches all on grass and separated by hedges. Many have their own fresh water and waste water point. They are mainly of a good size and some are quite generous. Access to pitches on the main site roads is good but some of the pitches are situated up short access roads and without a mover they could be difficult to get onto, particularly when the site is busy. There are also static caravans on site but these are placed to one side of the campsite.
Electric points are rated at a handy 10amps and connectors are European standard CEE17 blue plugs.
There are two toilet blocks of a good standard with seated toilets with paper provided. During the Autumn low season only one block is open.,br> During the main season there is a swimming pool and next to Reception is a small shop. In low season a bakers vans calls each day.
There is site wide WiFi provision and you can sign up online using a credit card. Its not particularly cheap, €15 for 3 days, but signal strength seems to be good. Camping Cheques are accepted out of the main season.

Date of Visit late September 2010.

The local area seems to be quite fascinating and we only wished that the weather was better during our stay so that we could have explored a lot more. Rouen is not far away. There is a supermarket in La Trait about 4 miles from the campsite.

To Find Site:
From N154 exit north of Evreux onto D316 signed for Gaillon and Les Andelys. The D316 changes to the D313 on the approach to Les Andelys. As you enter Les Andelys there is a roundabout. The site can be accessed either directly off this roundabout or by doubling back on yourself and taking first right to campsite. It is well signed.

This campsite has a lovely situation right on the banks of the River Seine and overlooked by the ruins of Chateau Gaillard. Depending on how busy the site is they try and allocate the riverside pitches to those staying longer than just over night. It is a site of two halves! The many seasonal pitches are at the far end of the site and separate from the 100 or so touring pitches which are nearer to reception. Pitch size varies but most are more than generous and larger outfits should not experience any problems. Pitches are individually hedged and most are longer than they are wide. Even in late September the grass was green and in excellent condition. In the touring section electric points are via CEE17 blue connectors and the supply rated at 6amps. Water points are few and far between although you do have the option of getting water at the two toilet blocks. The only grey water waste is at the chemical disposal points or the motorhome service point. Both toilet blocks in the touring area are of the same vintage and in need of a refurbishment and modernisation. One of the men’s containing a mix of Turkish and pedestal non-seated toilets, although paper is provided. There are only two pedestal toilets for men in total so I would imagine they struggle to cope when the site is busy. The ladies are better catered for. For late stayers they close the second block on 1st October and turn off the site taps! There is a small playground for younger children plus a volley ball and Boules court. The site has a small bar/snack restaurant with a terrace overlooking a small swimming pool. There is site wide WiFi and time may be purchased online but it is fairly expensive. During the low season the site accepts the ACSI Card. Date of visit late September 2012.

This site is used a lot for overnight stays but a longer stay is well worth while even if you just sit on the river bank watching the river traffic. Les Andelys is within walking distance of the site but is a fairly long trek for those not fully fit. There is also the option to cycle into the centre. Nearer to the site is Petit Andelys which is right on the river with several restaurants. The town has quite a large market on a Saturday which is worth a look. Chateau Gaillard can be visited on foot or by car. For those going by car it is still a trek to actually get to the ruined Castle.

Open from april 1st to september 30th 2009

Directions: Leave A29 at J7 and take D910 towards Goderville. Follow the bypass round Goderville towards Fecamp on the D925. Turn left on the D72 to Les Loges. The site is signposted from the village.

L’Aiguille Creuse is a small but lovely site in the countryside only 6 miles from the coastal town of Etretat. Situated in the rural village of Les Loges the entrance to site is unusually at the end of a residential street.
Reception and a small bar are on your left. The young site owners soon had us checked in and we were asked to choose our pitch. The 60 touring pitches with electric hook ups [10a] are to the left as you go through the barrier where the hedged pitches are more mature. Water points are plentiful. These are the push button variety, which can be a bit of a pain when filling an empty aquaroll! I always carry a few cable ties so I can make one up that is tight on the button and keeps the water flowing till you need to slide it off.
Access to some pitches from the narrow site road can be tight so a little care is needed with larger outfits. Most are also slightly sloping so levelling blocks are handy.
The facility block is in the centre of the site. The motorhome dump point is just behind this. Pitches to the right are non electric. They are newly hedged so this will take a little time to mature. Towards the top of the site there are 4 serviced pitches and some mobile homes. Wifi access is also available.

To the right of the entrance as you go in is a swimming pool and children’s playground. Bread can be ordered from the bar. There is a small grocery shop in the village. The nearest large supermarket is in Fecamp [8Km] the coastal towns of Etratat & Fecamp are both very pretty and well worth a visit. Deauville is a good day out, but the Pont Normandie will cost you 5 euros each way!

This is a good site for a few days stopover if using the Le Havre or Dieppe ferries. But it is also worthy of a longer stay. The owners are enthusiastic about improving and expanding the site.

In June 2000 we stopped for few days at a site near Dieppe on our way to the west coast. We had previously stayed there for a couple of weeks in Sep 97 and the site hadn’t changed at all.
It’s a well laid out site with the usual mixture of statics and touring pitches. Its not a big site and if you are in the right spot you can just see the sea.

They had a tennis court and very good toilet blocks. The pitches had their own water supply and waste and 16amp elec hook-ups. The site also has an incredibly large building for its barbeque.

We love the area and as with all of our French trips the weather seemed to be on our side. The beach at St Martins is very much like the rugged beaches around Dover.

Dieppe and neighbouring Treport with its great harbour offer a variety of interesting places to see and things to do. I often wonder why we have to travel further south.

If you want the flavour of France without having to travel miles and miles then this is a good location with plenty of history.

Camping Les Mouettes

Gem of a site with a very impressive reception with no English spoken.

Watch out for the long lunch break as the reception is closed from 12 noon to 3pm.

Before reaching the barrier there is a late arrival area with individual gravel pitches and a single water point. The touring area is well laid out and there are plenty of water taps and dustbins.
The flat grass pitches are very large and divided by low hedges but there is one entrance to four pitches and from a narrow path it can be difficult to manoeuvre into it.

The facilities building was in the centre of the site and of a high standard with plenty of hot showers, toilets, private washrooms, washing-up sinks and laundry room.

There is an enclosed children’s playground on sand and a building with slot machines, table tennis, pool table etc. The shop was in the same block but my knowledge of the french language let me down here, I think it said ’’if you want anything from the shop, ask at the reception’’.
Beyond the ablutions block was an area of permanently sited touring caravans, some looking a little past their sell-by date. I only saw one chemical disposal point on the site.

Mostly French and Dutch people on this site - I think we were the only Brits.

Although the hook-up points are three-pin the poles were reversed (the only adaptor I didn’t have so the screwdriver had to come out unfortunately).

There is a path opposite the camp which leads to a British Memorial and in the corner of the same field is a narrow but steep path leading to the stony beach and to the children’s free freshwater pool and playground on the boardwalk.
The walk into the village is very steep but worth the hard climb home. The river passes through the alleyways through the village and is very attractive.

The price for one night was about £9 inc 10 amp electric. I would definately return to this site but would only accept pitches numbered from 1-59 as I would not want to be among the permanents. If you are towing a large caravan, check your access to the pitch before heading for it.

A small site quite away from the Autoroute

This site has a fast river running just by the side of it. The site is on the flood plain the river being just inches below the sites level.
All the pitches on the site (120 total 75 touring) are hardstanding the water pressure is low and the taps have Presflo valves which deliver just over a litre of water.
The electric is IEE plugs 10 amps normal polarity.

The site has a small bar and pool to complement its amentity block but Motor home users face an extra charge to fill up and drop waste. Whilst we were there a Pizza van appeared and did brisk business selling freshly baked pizza but at 8 euros for a 10" pizza we gave it a miss and dined on Ham Paté en Croute and Fresh Goats Cheese

The site is easiest to Access from the D925 as from the other direction there are Speed HILLS (not humps)

Spent one night stop-over here July 12 2009

To Find Site:
The site is well signed off the N138 Bernay bypass. Look also for France Parc Exposition.

This is a handy stop over point with easy access off the A28

This campsite is handy as a stop off point close to the new A28 Autoroute. The site is located betwixt an industrial estate and housing. Mind you apart from a local football match it was quite peaceful.

The pitches are of reasonable size and are offset from the site roads, I suspect in an effort to make reversing in slightly easier from the narrow site roads. All except the tent pitches are hedged so there is a good degree of privacy. Water and electrics are handy to all pitches except those which I assume are designed for tents.

There is an excellent toilet block which is kept clean. The toilets are mainly of the English type. Whilst they do not have seats they are interesting shaped which makes this not so important. There is toilet paper to each cubicle. There is some local information in reception.

A bread man visits the site each morning. This is not a large site with perhaps 60 pitches. There are a couple of mobile homes and a handful of permanent vans.

When we arrived, with another couple closely behind, the site was only about 10% full. During the evening more units arrived so its difficult to tell what it would be like in the main season. At around £12 a night its not the cheapest Municipal I have stayed on but not too bad.

The centre of town of Bernay is walk able but not that close.
There is an Intermarche on the road that runs around the back of the Gare SNCF, cheapest fuel of the holiday!

Leave A28 at junction 9 (this avoids going through town centre) and take D928 towards town. At bottom of hill turn left, signed to campsite. Continue past E Leclerc supermarket and where road bears round to right go straight across into Rue Ste Claire. Campsite is not far along this road on the left.

Camping Sainte Claire is a lovely well kept campsite just off the A28 and on the edge of the town of Neufchatel en Bray. It is a popular as a night halt as well as for longer stays. It’s popular with the English, Dutch and Belgium's. There are about 75 touring pitches which are all on grass, some of these pitches have two runs of open block paving which is useful in bad weather, particularly for motorhomes. Pitch size is quite generous and in some parts of the site the pitches are drive through to help those heading for a ferry. Given the regular turnover nature of the site by the end of August it was still in excellent condition. Electric connections are rated at either 6 or 10amps (choice at time of arrival). In the main they use CEE17 blue connectors, however best to check for reverse polarity. The toilet block is clean and functional rather than being luxurious. They contain seatless pedestal toilets and no paper is provided. Behind reception is a small shop with limited selection although bread can be ordered daily. There is also small restaurant/bar. The site has WiFi that covers the whole site. It is reasonably priced but the time starts at point of purchase, not first log-in.

Very close to the site is an E Leclerc supermarket. The town of Neufchatel en Bray is with walking distance of the site. Also close to the site is a long distance cycle path, given that it is built on an old railway line there should not be any demanding hills!

Two minutes walk from the town centre.
100 pitches most with electric, £6.50 per night inc 10amp electric (normal 3-pin). Lots of hardstandings with individual waste drainage and electric.

Large pitches, half grass, half concrete, hedge surround. Beautiful setting and very quiet site.
Office and toilet block looked very impressive and new.

Brilliant site, we were gob-smacked when we saw it. Only trouble was as we staying only one night. We were expected to keep our car in the site so they didn’t offer us an entry card for the gate.

They insist on helping to push the caravans into place so that no damage is done. Napoleon, the camp commandant was quite upset when I started to reverse the caravan into position. Then I upset him again by setting his guard dogs barking while I was exploring the site.

The town is excellent, and has all you need to stock up and plenty of places to eat out.

We were the only Brits on the site and the staff spoke no English, so have your phrase book ready. Shame about the run in with Bonaparte, he didn’t even wave bye-bye to us but it would not stop us from returning. We highly recommend this site.

exit right at the bottom of the Pont de Normandie 3rd exit from roundabout onto D580 - follow road for about 2 miles - at roundabout take 2nd exit then turn right after about 100m onto the D22, site is on the right about half a mile down this road. But well signposted from the roundabout when you leave the dual carriageway after going over the Pont de Normandie.

Lovely site, English speaking owners. Lots of static/chalet type homes and touring vans there for the season.

Pitch size seems to vary - we got a large pitch when she saw the size of our caravan. Flat pitches, surrounded by highish hedges. Nice clean toilet block - didn’t use the showers as we always tend to us our own facilities.

Bar/snack bar, swimming pool, didn’t use that either - much too cold and it was pouring with rain! Little shop with staples like bread and wine! Bike hire too. Small children’s playground, table tennis table, boules pitch. 20 Euros deposit for entry card for electronic barrier.

We used ASCI card here - and paid 13.50 Euros + 1 Euro to upgrade the 6amps to 8amps.

Only stayed 2 nights as we were travelling south.

Visited Honfleur - beautiful port, lots to see - with trips up the river to view the Pont de Normandie from below!
