To Find Site:
Leave A71 at junction 12 towards Ebreuil. Continue through Ebreuil and turn left onto D915, ignore signs to Municipal campsite and site is on the left just after canoe hire base.

Camping de la Filature is just outside the attractive village of Ebreuil on the banks of the River Sioule. Reception has limited opening hours during the middle of the day but a notice on the door invites you to find a space and report back later, this may vary in the high season. This campsite is something of an enigma in that it seems to be caught in a time warp, I doubt whether it’s changed much over the years although that is also part of its charm. It’s quite rustic in nature with lots of tree cover, particularly along the river. There are around 80 pitches most of which are of a generous size. Some can be driven through which makes access, even for larger vans, relatively easy. Water points are dotted around the campsite although they have the rather inconvenient push button controls. Other than under a hedge the only grey water disposal is that the chemical toilet point. Electric points are rated at 6 amps and accept CEE17 blue connectors. The toilet shower facilities, whilst keep clean, can only be described as just adequate and long overdue for a rebuild. Toilets are seated pedestal with paper provided but some cubicles are small and in some cases there is not sufficient light during the day. Shower cubicles are also on the small side. Reception houses a small shop and next door is an interesting bar with seating on an open terrace. The site also has home prepared takeaway meals which are good value as well as being very tasty. The dish of the day is posted in the morning and the site prefer that people order this in advance. If you bring your own plate and cutlery the meals can be eaten on the terrace. A bread van calls daily. Free WiFi is available in the Reception/Bar area. For children there is play equipment and a crazy golf course as well as table tennis tables. Many will enjoy the river that runs along one side of the site. As we always use our own facilities the short comings of the toilet facilities are not really an issue for us. We found the site peaceful with little noise and a sense of spaciousness. The site is ideal as a stopover off the A71/A75 going north or south. The ACSI Card is accepted in the low season, although high season charges are quite reasonable.

A short distance from the site entrance is a canoe hire base. There are some shops in Ebreuil which is walkable from the site. For more serious shopping you may have to go to Gannat about 10kms away. There are lots of opportunities for excursions from the site. You can drive out from the site and follow the River Sioule and its Gorge.

To Find Site:
From either north or south leave A75 Autoroute at junction 5 and take D213 towards Orcet. At roundabout continue onto D52, take first left and continue across low river bridge and site is next right. (the site is signed on the D52)

This excellent site is a very convenient stop off the A75 just south of Clermont Ferrand.
Although built on a side of a hill access to pitches is good and all are level.
There are two toilet blocks of high quality, They have a mix of Turkish and English toilets. The chemical loo disposal is a bit Heath Robertson but works fine.

The pitches are laid out along the tarmac roads and are of a good size and most are delineated by high hedges. There are also several pitching areas set back a bit from the site road which I suspect are used for those customer staying more than one night.
Electrics are available to all pitches and you can have either 5 or 10 amp.

Reception has some information on the local area.
There is a bar but this seems only to be open in the high season.
Although not large there is a very nice pool complex.

This campsite gives a discount to holders of the ACSI Card.

The centre of the small town of Orcet is a short (uphill) walk from the site. There are several shops for bread and essential supplies, although there are also several supermarkets in the vicinity. Every day except Monday a baker calls at the entrance to the campsite.

There are many opportunities for sight seeing from Le Clos Auroy.

Camping du Vaubarlet is in a river valley in the Haute Loire region. It seems very remote when you are there; there is a feeling of being miles from anywhere, as the valley and the immediate area is deserted, but the small town of Sainte Signolene is about three miles away.

Access is not difficult, but the area is very hilly; once you get south of St Etienne there are some quite spectacular drives and climbs both on the minor roads and the main road through the area. We had no problems with our folding camper however; access to the site is good and the site itself is flat.

The site is spacious and you can put your unit more or less wherever you like; the owners are very friendly and welcoming.
There is also a rough camping area for those that are that way inclined.
The facilities are clean and well appointed. There is a medium size pool with an adjacent bar and restaurant, and there is a play area on site.
On site is a shop which just sells the basics, but there is an adequate supermarket in the nearest town, about 10 minutes drive.

The site is quite quiet, but there is enough to do in the surrounding area, and if you wish to explore the area bikes can be rented and there are tracks to walk.

The only downside we had with this site was the weather was atrocious for much of the time we were there; this is not usual I understand.
It’s a good site for those who like walking, hiking and biking, and lovers of picturesque scenery.

To find site:
Leave A75 at junction 13 and head towards Parentignan on D996. At first roundabout continue straight on (Parentignan signed to left) and at next roundabout take first right on D34 signed for Les Pradeaux. Campsite is signed from here.

Camping la Grange Fort is a pleasant rustic country campsite set in and around an old Chateaux about 20 miles south of Clermont Ferrand and not far from the A75 autoroute. The site is Dutch owned and the owners, as would be expected, speak perfect English.
There are around 120 pitches of a variety of sizes but mostly generous to large. Some have an open aspect whilst others are individually hedged. Some are quite private if that is your requirement although access to these pitches could be difficult for larger outfits. Some of the pitches are on grass but others are on gravel or compacted soil hardstandings. Electric points are rated at 6amps and are a mix of CEE17 and continental connectors.
Water points are dotted around the site. Toilet facilities are good with seated toilets but no paper provided, some facilities are unisex.

There is a lovely outside swimming pool as well as an indoor one.
Bread can be ordered at Reception and they also sell wine and ice cream. The site boasts a restaurant although I could not quite establish where it was situated!
WiFi is available, via the Passman system, as is fixed terminal internet access. The ACSI Card is accepted out of the main season.

This site is a useful stop over going north/south on the A75 although the site has a certain charm which should encourage a longer stay. There is a large Carrefour near junction 12 at Issoire. If you have time there is lots to explore in the area.

Date of visit early September 2009.
